Trinity Preschool activities for Friday, Jan. 30, 2015

Oakroom:

Today we read The Magic School Bus Sleeps for the Winter

For art today we used shaving cream and glue which we mixed together and used to create a snowman.  The children then added beads, buttons and stick to their snowman.

For music we sang, "Take That Bean Bag", and then did a train instrumental where we balanced a beanbag while walking around the room.

We used writing boards at group time and practiced Rr words using pictures.


Willow Room 

We read Snow by Roy McKee and P.D. Eastman 

We painted with "snowballs", knee hi nylons filled with rice, dipped in White glitter paint.  
At the easel we painted with prickly rings dipped in painted and our paper was shaped like a capital letter E.

We did dancing feet, itsy bitsy snowflake -tune of itsy bitsy spider and the cool bear hunt.

We did 5 little snowflakes rhyme.
We looked at objects that begin with the letter e.

Maple room:

We read "the hat" by Jan Brett

We painted on shelf liner with blue and purple glitter paint, then we made a print by pressing it onto paper.
We had hat shapes at the easel and painted them using textured block painter pads.

We did letter h activities

We did the January song, and little fish for music.

We transformed our dramatic play area into a post office, the children helped us set it up today.

Stay and play:

We read "danny's first snow," by Leonie Gore

We dripped water colors onto a plastic grid placed on paper.  Then we removed the grid.

We did an opposites puzzle match, find your opposites partner.

We did the opposite song, and this is the way we do it , an action song.

Trinity preschool activities for Monday, January 5, 2015

Oak room:

We read " A little bit of winter" by Chris Riddell and "Hibernation" by Tori Kasara
We are starting to talk and learn about hibernation.

The children painted bear shape paper plates brown to look like bear heads.  We added eyes endnotes and will use them to make a bulletin board of beers in a cave.


We did "going on a bear hunt" and "deep blue sea" for music today.

We had Ice blocks and water colors with eye droppers.

Maple room:

We read "polar bear, polar bear, what do you hear?" By Bill Martin Jr.

We painted with strings dipped in White paint and painted on dark blue paper.  We will use them to make a classroom book based on the story today.

We had water colors at the easel.
We did letter e activities today.

We started doing estimating today.  This is a math skill where the children make a " guess" on how many items are in the container.  After we do this a few times, they get better at estimating. 

We had water and magnetic fish with magnetic fishing poles at the water table today.  We put a top on the table with holes in it and the children pretended they were Ice fishing.

We did "i can make a snowman", "chubby little snowman", and "freeze dance" for music today.

Willow room: MWF class

We read "the dot" by Peter H Reynolds

We used bright color paint and brushes at the table today for art.

We had stencils and colored pencils at the easel.

We have our dramatic corner set up like a grocery store now with food, shopping carts, cash registers, etc.

We did "teddy bear, teddy bear", " put your finger in the air", and " little fish" for music today.

We did 5 little snowman, rhyme.

Stay and play :

We read "snow day for mouse" by Judy Cox 
We did roll painting.  We gave the children empty tennis ball plastic containers, and stiff brushes with paint.  After they painted the containers, they rolled the container back and forth across the paper to make designs. 

We did "dear old frosty", " come and get a smiley face", and " the freeze dance" for music today.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Monday, January 26, 2015

Willow Room:

We read "Snowy's special Secret" by Guildo Van Cenechten

We made snowflake prints by using thread spools dipped in white tempra paint and pressed with the end down on paper.  Then we sprinkled glitter on top.

We mixed dish soap into powdered tempra paint and painted at the easel with small brushes.

We did "Ring the bells, winter time is here", "Turn around", and "Snowmen Pokey" for music today.

We did the rhyme "Red mittens hanging on a line".

We talked about the letter D, the sound it makes, and we looked at objects that start with the letter D.

Oak Room:

We read "Sleepover with Beatrice and Bear" by Monica Carnesi

We also read " Sleep Big Bear Sleep" by Maureen Wright

We decorated a snowman shape with markers and put it on contact paper.  Then we added a base and made it look like a snow globe, We hung them on our windows,

We did "Old Mc Donald had a band" using instruments, sticky bubble gum, and some hibernation rhymes for music.

We have a tent set up in the room to pretend it is a bear cave.  We have foot prints on the floor leading to it.

We made an ice snowman on Friday by putting together 2 balls of ice using salt as the binder.  We dressed it up like a snowman and checked to see if it melted at all.  then we put it in the freezer over the weekend and each evening and we  will watch it again each day this week.

Maple Room:

We read "One winter's day" by M Chrstina Butler

We did plexiglass painting.  The children painted on plexiglass circles, and then we pressed paper on top.  The children did it over and over and made several circle shapes on their paper.

We used the ends of spools dipped in paint and pressed onto a snowflake shape paper at the easel.

We did letter H activities on dry erase boards.

We skyped this morning with some of the children's grandma in Indiana.

Stay and Play:

We read "Bella gets her skates on" by Ianbrow

We used bed roller wheels and plastic pizza cutters dipped in paint to make fun designs on paper.

We did "The freeze dance" with bells. and "Way up high in the snowy tree"


Trinity Preschool Activities for Friday, January 23, 2015

Oak Room: Pre K class


We read "Mr. Wolf and the three bears" by Jan Fearnley

We did a sorting activity, we sorted hard and soft objects.

We drew pictures in our 3 bears books. We each retold the story and will have our own book.

We had a house shape paper at the easel, and had bear stampers, a girl stamper, and small paint brush so we could make our own 3 bears house .

We did a hot and cold sorting chant, did some hibernation rhymes, and did "Get ready, get set, let's dance" for music time.

We had writing dry erase boards, we did letter Q words and pictures.

Stay and Play:

We did color tissue art. We used "bleeding tissue paper", stampers and wet sponges for art.  The children put pieces of colored tissue paper onto white paper.  Then they took a stamper and pressed it on a wet sponge.  They pressed the stamper onto the tissue paper and when they lifted it up, the color bleeds though to the paper.

We did the ABC letter sounds song, using flash card pictures.
We did a days of the week, a transportation story with props.
We also did "Little bunny foo foo using props

Willow Room:

We read "Chicka, Chicka Boom Boom" by Bill Martin Jr and John Archambault

We glued foam letters onto a coconut tree shape (like the story)

We painted with textured carpet squares at the easel.

We did "Monkey Say, Monkey Do", Lettercise, and Late last night" for music today.

We did "Red mitten, Red mitten, what do you see?

Maple room:

We read "The mitten" by Jan Brett

We mixed corn starch and shaving cream to make "snow" that the children loved playing with today.

We cut out mitten shapes and the children worked on a book for our class: "It said " My mitten was so big a ______ could fit inside.

We talked about what happened to the snow we brought into the classroom. We will watch as it evaporates.

We used the parachute as a pretend mitten and had the children act out the story of the mitten we read today. We sang the mitten in the snow to the tune of the farmer in the dell and used the song to act out the story. Once we had everyone inside the parachute mitten, we had a big sneeze and the parachute came off.

We played other parachute games too with balls.

Willow Room: Terrific 2's and 3's class

We read "The mitten" by Jan Brett

We painted on mitten shape paper wearing mittens that have textured palms.

We painted with textured "carpet squares".

We did "The mitten", "This is the way we get up in the morning", and "Late last night" for music.
We did "Red mitten, red mitten What do you see?"

We have shaving cream and ice cubes in the sensory table to explore.

Oak Room- Pre K class

We read "Goldi Rocks and the Three Bears" by corey Rosen Schwant

We read Over and "Under the snow"

We did an experiment, we filled a balloon with water and measured the size.  Then we froze the balloon and will remeasure it tomorrow.

We painted with frozen water colors, with a popscicle stick in it for a handle.  We also sprinkled powder paint onto the paper which added another element.  Then when we moved the frozen paint around on top, the melted colors made new colors.

We did "Where  is red bear?", We sang a rhyme and used different color bears for it.  The childrne stood up when the color of the bear they were holding was called.
We also did a 5 bear cubs rhyme and used props.

We did some hibernation rhymes.

We asked if anyone has the letter Q in their name?We did a small, medium and large sorting activity.

We use the 3 bears story to explore the concepts of size.

Maple Room- Thursday class

We read "Bear feels scared" and Bear's new friend"  by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman

We played Go Fish to practice numbers and we worked on writing our names.

Maple Room

We read "Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats

We painted with frozen watercolors on water color paper.  We framed them and put them in the hall.  We use liquid water colors from Discount school supply, for this project, not diluted too much.  Free them in ice cube trays with a small popscicle stick for a handle.

We had snowflake shapes at the easel with glitter paint.

We did The January song, 2 little snowflakes, and 5 chilly snowmen for music time.

Oak Room:

We acted out the story of the 3 bears.  Everybody got a chance to be on of the bears or Goldilocks.

We read "The quiet quail" today

We worked in our journals today on things that start with the letter Q.

We did "Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, Turn around" and "Stick to the glue" for music time.

Willow Room:

We read "The Mitten" by Jan Brett

We painted on mitten shapes while wearing textured mittens dipped in paint.

We had magnetic snowmen at the easel that the children could sort by size.

We did "If you are happy and you know it"< "Face the Facts" and "Head, shoulders, knees and toes " for music today.

Our sensory table has shaving cream and ice cubes to explore.

We used clothes pins to hang mittens on a clothesline.  Great for fine motor skills.

We did Teasing Mr. Snowman Rhyme

We had small paint palates and water color brushes out at choice time.

We looked at objects that start with the letter C.




Trinity Preschool Activities for Tuesday, January 20, 2015

Willow Room:

We are having fun with our grocery store in our dramatic corner.  We pretend to buy groceries, and be grocers.  We learn about healthy food choices too.

We are also learning about colors now, and we are learning about the color blue.

We read "I love you, blue Kangaroo" by Emma Chichester Clarke

WE glued blue objects on blue paper, using blue glue.

We painted using blue powder paint that we mixed dish soap into to make it shiny.

We did "Tap you toe and follow me, Over the deep blue sea, and Hello everybody for music today.

We did a color guessing game, we hid a small snowflake shape behind different color snowmen and the children took turns guessing which color snowman the snowflake was behind.

Oak Room: Pre- K class

We read "The three bears" by Byron Barton and we read "All about Hibernation" by Tori Kasara

We rolled tennis balls in paint and then rolled them back and forth in a box over a bear shape.

We did "one little bear went out to play", "Herman the Worm" and "Sticky Bubble Gum" for music today.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Tuesday, January 13, 2015

Oak Room: Pre- K class

We read "The mitten" by Jan Brett and "The Hat" also by Jan Brett

We dripped paint with eye droppers onto a mitten shape.

We did "come and get a mitten", and "The mitten song" for music today.

We put snow in a cup and are predicting how much water will be in the cup when the snow melts.

We brought snow in the room and played with it with mittens on.

Willow Room- Terrific 2's and 3's class

We read "My crayons talk" by Patricia Hubbard
We are learning about colors and we asked the children today "Are you wearing any red?"

We fingerpainted with red paint, our color this week.

At the easel we painted snowflake shapes with blue and white glitter paint.

WE did "Come and join in the game, the circle game, and Tommy Thumb for music today.

We did a color felt rhyme (find the color) and we brought in snow to play with inside the classroom.

We have a grocery store set up in our classroom dramatic corner.

We started the estimating jar, the children had to estimate how many pom poms were in the jar.

We did a  roll painting activity. The children had empty tennis ball plastic containers and they painted on the outside of them and then rolled them across the paper to make a print.

We did "dear old frosty", "come and get a smiley face" and we used hand bells and danced to the freeze dance song.

Oak Room: Pre- K class

We read "Bear snores on" by Karma WIlson and Jane Chapman
 and "Bear Feels Sick" by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman

We also read the letter P book

We worked on our letter journals on the letter P.

We did body bingo challenges with scarves and we did "When I was a little fish" for music today.

We did the letter P mystery bag and we made a list of words that start with the letter P.

We brought snow inside to play with again today with water colors to drip on it.

Maple Room- MWF class
We read "Tacky the Penguin
by Helen Lester

We did a cutting project to make a "belly" for our penguin art.  The children cut out the square shape and did dab a dot painters on it.  Then they glued it onto a bigger black rectangle for the penguin.

We had snowflake stencils at the easel with clue and purple glitter paint.

We did letter E activities and we had snowflakes, penguins, and some water in the sensory table.

Willow Room:

We read "All you need for a snowman" by Alice Schertle

We asked the children "Do you have the letter B in your name and we discussed the results.

We painted snowmen shapes with a shaving ceam and glue mixture and added buttons, pieces of fabric or yarn, and raisins for faces.

We had magnetic letters at the easel.

We did the snowflake song and used pretend snowflakes
We did I can make a snowman and I like my hat for music today.

We did a snowman in the yard felt board rhyme

We made rainbow snow by painting the snow with water color brushes.

Trinity preschool activities for Tuesday, January 6, 2015


Oak room:

We read " What do you remember?" By Paul Stewart and "over and under the snow" by Kate Mersner

We made dough from scratch and pressed it into Bird seed to make Bird feeders.  We hung one outside, and sent the rest home with the children to help feed the birds.

We did going on a bear hunt, and Animal actions, for music today.

We brought snow in for the children to play with it while wearing mittens.

Willow room terrific 2 and 3 class

We painted using brushes and bright paint.

We had stencils and markers at the easel.

We did teddy bear, teddy bear, put your finger on, and little fish for music today.

We did 5 little snowman rhyme today.

We brought snow in and played with it wearing mittens.

Our dramatic corner is a Pizza shop.
