Fall bulletin board leaves, pigs, corn and chickens!



We like to use the children's art in our room decorations.  The children enjoy seeing their work valued this way.  We use it in the rooms and in the halls too.  In the Willow classroom the children have been learning about farms and fall, so we incorporated it all to make fall, farm art.

We added chickens and corn for our fall bulletin board.

We painted bubble wrap and made a print on paper, then cut them into corn shapes for our bulletin board.

We glued feathers on to chicken shapes.
We fingerpainted with chocolate pudding and pressed a pig shape onto the pudding.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Happy Halloween.  While we hope all of the children have a fun Halloween, we keep our routine normal at school on Halloween. We do some special fun, fall activities and even carve a pumpkin, but we leave the costume fun for you to do after school.

Willow Room: MWF class:

We read "The bumpy little pumpkin" by Margery Cuyler
We asked the children "Do you have a pumpkin at your house?"

We glued orange construction paper pieces onto a paper plate to make a pumpkin.
We used roller brushes to paint with orange paint er a pumpkin shape stencil on top of green paper.  They ended up looking like pumpkins in a field.

We did "pumpkin in the red barn", "Pass the pumpkin" and "As I was walking to town" for music time.

We did a pumpkin rhyme at circle time.

We read "Froggy's Halloween" by Jonathan London
We did an experiment today: "Does a pumpkin float or sink?" The children had to make a prediction- 6 thought it would float, and 9 thought it would sink.......it floated!  Our conclusion was it floats because there is air inside to hold it up.

We also took a vote on how we wanted to carve our pumpkin face today- then we carved it the winning way and later put a flashlight inside to see it light up.

We cut out pumpkin shapes and we decorated our vests for our Thanksgiving party at the easel.

We did The October song, 5 little pumpkins, and pass the pumpkin for music time.

We did letter E activities, and we made a spider web by passing yarn from person to person and wrapping it around our feet before passing it on.  We all sat in a big circle.

Maple Room - afternoon class
We were learning about colors suing nursery rhymes and now we are learning about shapes using nursery rhymes and favorite songs. Today we are learning about circles.

We read "The very busy spider" by Eric Carle and we did the nursery rhyme "Little Miss Muffet"

We used circle shapes dipped in black paint to make spiders.   We had dab a doo painters at the easel on circle shapes.

We did The October song, Itsy Bitsy Spider, "There's a spider on ....." for music time.


Oak Room:
We read Arthur's Halloween by Marc Brown

We made orange jack-o-lanterns by cutting the lines on a piece of construction paper.  We stapled them into a circle and added a black handle.  The children colored them too.

We did "Pumpkin in the brown straw", "pass the pumpkin" (and when they got stuck with the pumpkin they stood up and said "Happy Halloween" and one jack-o-lantern went out to play for music time.   

We did the letter H book.

We read "What do you remember?" by Paul Stewart

We painted with mesh shower puffs dipped in paint.

We did "Let's go fly a kite" using scarves, "She'll be coming around the mountain" for music time.

We did a math activity of size comparisons. We also did a listening lotto farm sounds game.

We read "Stuck in the mud" by Jane Clarke

We asked the children "Have you ever been stuck?"

We glued feathers to a chicken shape.

We painted at the easel with feathers.

We did "5 little ducks", "Bean bag pretend" and "When it is autumn" for music time.

We did a rhyme called "I'm a little leaf".  We pretended we were the leaves using our whole bodies, then later, we pretended just our hands were leaves and did the actions in the rhymes.

We read "There's a opossum in my backyard" by Gary Bogue
and "Bat's at the beach"  by Brian Lies

We wrote in our journals, writing and drawing something that starts with the letter H.

We did late last night, and let's play in a band, (we used bells, shakers and sticks to make music). 

We guessed what items might be in the H mystery bag.

We asked the children "Did you ever need help?"

We glued feathers to a chicken shape and added them to our bulletin board.

We painted with a large feather at the easel.
We did "5 little ducks", "Bean bag pretend" and "When it is autumn" for music time.

Our pretend hen is still sitting on her pretend eggs, maybe they will "hatch" on Wednesday.

We painted with mini pumpkins cut in half.  We had watercolors at the easel.
We did "The October song", "Pirate song", and acted out "5 little pumpkins" for music time.

We did letter E activities, the letter E book, and "Do you have the letter E in your name?"


Oak Room-
We read "Don't laugh Joe" by Keiko Kasza

We cut out feather shapes and cut fringe around the edge.  We will ask the children what they are thankful for and write it on the feathers.  We will make a "We are thankful" bulletin board for Thanksgiving. 

We did "Bear Hunt", Silly Sally", Today is Monday, and Pirate song, for music time.

We are talking about the letter H.
We carved our pumpkin.

We played a Bingo bears game- talked about the different sizes of the bears and the colors.
We did a car race with cars of 6 different colors and kept a tally of which car won.

We did "5 little pumpkins", "face the facts", "Pretty leaves," the "chicken dance" and "Head, shoulders knees and toes for music time.

Oak Room:

We are still learning abotu noturnal animals.
We read "Lights out, nights out" by William Boniface and "Little Owl's night" by Divya Srinivasan

We made "eyes in the night" for art; we dipped a cork in glue and pressed it on black paper-  then we sprinkled glitter over the glue to looks like eyes at night.

We had a sequencing alphabet file folder game.  Some letters were missing and we had to figure out which ones and put them in the right places.

We had mini bats in rice and used tweezers to pick them out.
We had magnetic writing boards out too.

We did "All the fish" animal movements using bell ribbons and nocturnal animal rhymes.

Stay & Play

We painted with cars by rolling them in paint and on the paper.

We read the story of the three little pigs


We fingerpainted with brown paint and pressed a pig shape paper onto the finger paint to make a "muddy" print.
We had watercolors at the easel.

We did "Little pig went to market, pat-a-cake, and 5 little pigs for music time.
We are talking about the color pink.

Oak Room- Pre- K class

We read "One smart skunk" by Harriet Ziefert
We learned skunks are nocturnal, they spray bad smells to chase enemies away.

We did the letter G book too.
We wrote and drew in our journals- letter G words.
We had leaf stampers at the easel.

We drew on a pumpkin with markers and we could erase them with a wet paper towel.
We had peg boards and lacing designs today too.

We did a spider rhyme using plastic spiders and we played a game with matching an upper and lower case letter- then we got to press a buzzer when we did it.

We did a small group game- pop and win ABC BINGO.
We made our fingerprints and we will look at them tomorrow to see that they are all different.

We read "Wacky Wednesday" by Theo LeSieg

We painted with textured flip flop painters.

We did little fish and the body rock for music

We had fun outside!  

Way up high in the apple tree

We have apple shapes that we have drawn simple facial expressions on: smile, tears (sad), sleepy (yawn), angry, surprised. We have two of each expression. 
We make them out of paper, laminate them and attach magnets to the back or you can go traditional and make them out of felt. 
We adapt it to other seasons or objects, 2 little snowflakes, 2 little candy canes, two little leaves, etc.

We put two up and do the following rhyme:

Way up high in the apple tree (adjust for others - maple tree, Christmas tree)
Two little apple "smiled" (whatever word is appropriate) at me
I shook that tree as hard as I could 
Down came the apples, mmmmmm, were they good!

Willow Room-Terrific 2's and 3's class

We read "The mouse and the apple" by Stephen Butler

We talked about patience today and we asked the children if there was ever a time they had to wait and wait for something.

We painted yellow ducks using shaving cream and yellow tempra paint mixed together.

We had oil pastels at the easel.

We did "5 little ducks went out to play", "Freeze dance" (using ribbons) and "Couch potato pokey" for music time.

We did way up high in the apple tree rhyme too.

The Children are really enjoying being vets in our animal clinic taking care of all the sick animals in the farm.


Oak Room- Pre- K class

We read "Bats big game" by Brian Lies and "Fantastic Bats" by Justin McCory Martin

We are painting coffee filters with black paint and putting them on a black clothes pin to look like a bat.

We did "Pumpkin in the brown straw", "5 little pumpkins smiled at me", and 1 little, 2 little, three little apples.

We are learning about nocturnal animals
We are learning about the letter G.

Willow Room- MWF class

We read "The mouse and the apple" by Stephen Butler.  We also read a story called "Cows"

We asked "Have you ever had to wait and wait and wait for something? We talked about using patience while we wait for something and throughout the day we reminded the children to have patience while waiting for something.

We used apple shape sponges dipped in red, yellow and green paint and made apple prints.

We had oil pastels at the easel.

We did "Couch potato pokey", "5 little ducks", and "the freeze dance" using ribbons too.

We did some apple rhymes using felt apples.

We read "The little old lady who was not afraid of anything" by Linda Williams
We did a cutting project today, the children cut on the lines on some orange paper and it turned into a pumpkin lantern.

We had alphabet stampers at the easel.

We did The October song, and pretty leaves for music time

We did letter D activities- the alphabet monster ate things that start with the letter D and we had to guess  what items he ate.  We did the Letter D book, and we asked "Do you have the letter D in your name?

Maple room- afternoon class

We are still learning about colors- today we did the color white.
We read "Pete the cat" I love my white shoes" by Eric Litwin

For art- we wrote each child's name on white paper with a white crayon.  They will paint the paper with watercolors and the paint does not adhere to the crayon so their name will appear.

We had stampers at the easel - a pumpkin and a cat with paint.

We did Mary had a little lamb ( a book on CD), come and buy a pumpkin and five little monkeys for music time.


Oak Room- Pre- K class
We are learning about nocturnal animals (animals that sleep during the day and are awake at night. 
We had bats hidden around the room and went on a hunt for them.

We read "Stellaluna" by Janell Cannon and Bat's Big game" by Margaret Read McDonald
We made bat prints in the night-.  We painted with black paint on blue paper.

We did 5 green and speckled frogs, come and buy a pumpkin, and five little monkeys for music time.
We are learning about the letter G. 

Stay & Play:

We read "A porcupine named fluffy" by Helen Lester

We used twirly brushes to paint with today, although most of the children did not paint.

We had rice with small toys in them at one of the tables - this was a big hit.

We had an alphabet file folder game and a bingo game of everyday objects.

We did "Can you leap like a frog?" (an action dance), and "The airplane song"- using the ribbons to move in fun ways.

The children help make the leaves for the bulletin board and we will make stalks of corn out of bubble wrap prints.

Apple Activities in Preschool


Apple sorting activity, childrne use tweezers to put the right color apple on the matching tree.




Children cut a circle shape and a reactangle shape to make a tree.  They dipped corks int ink pads to make apples.

The children painted leaves with watercolors, come painted around the leaves as well as on top of the leaves.  We made prints of the leaves.

Fall scarecrow bulletin board- Oak room


 The children painted bubble wrap and made a print from it.  We then cut them into corn cob shapes and added them to our bulletin board to celebrate fall.

Willow Room: MWF class

We read "Tiny on the farm" by Carl Meister.
We asked the children what they could tell us about farm animals for our question today.

We painted with corn on the cobs.  We rolled them around in a box over paper to make a fun corn cob print.

We did "Over the deep blue sea", "Tommy Thumb" and "Everybody has a face for music today.

We played with our muddy pigs again today.

We did a colored apples rhyme.


Maple Room- morning class:
We read "The falling leaves and the scarecrow" by Steve Metzger

We painted on leaves with watercolors and made a print of it.

We had oil pastels and black paper at the easel.

We did "The October song, 5 little pumpkins (we acted it out- everyone had a turn being a pumpkin) and scarcrow, scarecrow.

We talked about words that start with the letter C, we practiced writing the letters on our white boards and we had bead stringing today instead of playdough.

We are talking about the color black.
We read "Black dog- Red House"  by Lizi Boyd

We glued cotton balls to a black sheep shape for art today- we made our own Baa Baa Black sheep
We had textured rollers at the easel to use with paint.

We did The October song, scat the cat, Miss Mary Mack, 5 little sheep, hands inside the circle for music today.

We played a color recognition game- find the rainbow.
We did "Miss Mary Mack" a CD story.


Oak Room- Pre- K class

We read " Little Mouse and the Big Red Apple" by A.H. Benjamin

The children used the scissors to work on cutting skills today.  They cut a circle and tree trunk shape to make a tree.  Then we used corks and stamp pads to put apples on their trees. 

We did an opposites sorting activity, a magnetic ABC puzzle and the letter F puzzle today.

We did "The opposite" by Hap Palmer, and used rhythm sticks to the song Row Row Row your boat. We also used the rhythm sticks to tap out syllable's of words.

We talked about what starts with the letter F.


Stay & Play:

We read "If all the animals came inside" by Eric PInder

We painted with a mixture of shaving cream and tempra paint.  The children got to stir thier own paint together.

We did "5 in the bed" using props, and "Little Bunny foo foo" book and song.

We made our own pizza muffins for our snack today.

Apple Orchard Bulletin Board

We use the children's art to make our bulletin boards. For this one, the children used corks to dip in red paint and press onto tree shape paper to make apples.

Muddy Pigs- Farm fun at preschool- cornstarch and water


We mix corn starch and water with a little brown paint to make our mud.  The plastic pigs love to roll around in the mud.  We do this with our farm unit in the Willow room.  This is great sensory fun for preschoolers.

Willow Room- Terrific 2's and 3's class

We told the story " Can you find my breakfast?"
We asked the children "What is your favorite farm animal?"

We made animal paw prints for art and we had animal stencils with markers at the easel.

We sang "The good day song", "When I was a little fish" and "animals on the farm" for music time.

We picked corn kernels off feed corn in our sensory table- great for fine motor skills.

We had our muddy pigs again today- cornstarch and water with a little brown paint mixed in.  The we add plastic pigs to play with in the "Mud".

We added a vet clinic to our dramatic play area so we can take care of the farm animals. Each child has their own "DR" hat

We read "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Suess

We played a color and shape BINGO game.  

We talked about the rhyming words in the story we read today.

We drove small cars on alphabet letters- following the way the letters would be written.

We did "Down around the corner at the pumpkin store, and scarecrow, scarecrow for music time.

Oak Room- Pre- K class

We read "Fletcher and the falling leaves" by Julia Rawlinson

We painted on real leaves and made a leaf print on paper by pressing them on the paper. We will put them all together to make a picture quilt.

We had a shapes sorting board, magnetic faces to create,  We also had out a spatial relations game.  You follow the pictures to match what you make, (a tree behind a car, a dog in front of a house).

We did The opposites song, and opposites cards, each child said an opposite, they understand opposites well.

We also did 5 little leaves rhyme and 2 little blackbirds for musci time. 

We asked if anyone had the letter F in their name?

Trinity Preschool Activities for Wednesday, October 17, 2012

We had a fire drill today.

Willow Room- MWF class

We told the story of "Can you find my breakfast?" A story about a mixed up breakfast.
We asked the children what their favorite farm animal is?

We made animal paw prints for art and we had animal stencils at the easel with markers.

We did the Good day song, When I was a little fish, and Animals on the farm for music time.

We had feeder corn in the sensory table and the children used thier fine motor muscles to pick the kernels off the cobs.
We played with our muddy pigs in the corn starch and water mixture with some brown paint added to look like mud.
We went for a walk around the school to look at the fire trucks and ambulances that were parked there for a training day.  One of the fire fighters came over to talk to us about 911.

Maple Room: Morning class   
We read "A color of his own" by Leo Lionni

We made sandwich bag collages.  We added bits and pieces of ribbon, nature items, glitter, buttons, pom poms into a sandwich bag.

We finger painted at the easel for a new experience. 
We did The October song, letter sounds song, Old Mc DOnald had a band (using instruments) and everybody clap your hands for music time.

We did letter C activities and read a copycat book.

Maple Room- Afternoon class

We read "5 little monkeys" and "Do you know the muffin man". We are learning about the color brown.
We used muffin shape paper and the children "frosted" them with a mixture of shaving cream and glue.  We sprinkled confetti on top to look like sprinkles.
We had pumpkin shape paper at the easel with orange paint.

We did The October song, Muffin Man and 5 little monkeys for music time. We also played a muffin man game.

Oak Room: Pre- k class
We read "Clifford's first autumn" by Norman Bridwell and "I am a leaf" by Jean Marzollo

We wrote the letter F in our journals and drew or traced a picture that starts with the letter F.

We did The cool bear hunt, silly dance contest, and today is Monday for music time. 

We read a book about the letter F. We did a science experiment where you pour tinted water into a bottle, then you pour in dish soap- what happens?  Then you pour in oil- what happens? 

We took the children out in small groups to play NUMBER BINGO.

Stay & Play:

We read Chicken Soup" by Jean Van Leeuwen

We used stencils to make a sand picture. We brushed glue inside the stencil and spread the sand over it all.  The design appeared.

We did "Over the deep blue sea", and "Clap if you want to" for music time.

M & M Graphing and art activity

Each child was given a handful of M & M's to sort, graph, & count.



After the children sorted the M & M's into separate colors, they added water and made "Paint"
After adding mostly yellow M&M's, they added a few red ones too.

The children made various shades of colors too.



 This math activity grabbed the children's attention for sure!  They thought it was fun to graph, sort, count and make comparisons using the M&M's.  Of course we had to have a few at snack too.

Preschool 3 D art

The children used brushes to paint onto waxed paper.

They rolled a paper towel tube with one piece of paper towel still on it back and forth across the paint.

The paint adheres to the paper towel and creates a 3D art project.

We played outside on the playground today.

Willow Room- MWF class

We read "Ten red apples" by Pat Hutchins

We asked the children if they have ever gone apple picking?

We dipped corks in paint and stamped them onto paper cut in a tree shape.

We did "Way up high in the apple tree", "Little Old Wagon" and "Brown Bear" for music time today.

We played with "muddy pigs". We made a mixture of cornstarch and water and added a little brown paint to make it look like mud. We added plastic pigs and played with them in the mud.

We read "I spy with my little eye" by Edward Gibbs

We talked about primary and secondary colors and how you make green, orange and purple out of mixing red yellow and blue. 

For art the children were each given powdered paint in red, yellow and blue with a paint brush and some water.  They then mixed two colors together to create a new color.

We painted with purple paint on a paper shaped like a bush. Then we added purple pom poms with glue.

We had watercolors at the easel.

We did "Around the mulberry bush", "Little Jack Horner" and "Colored leaves" for music time.

We  painted with bubble wrap today.  We painted the bubble wrap with fall colors and we made a print on paper. We will cut the paper to look like corn and add it to our bulletin board.

We did "Stick to the glue", "Where is the squirrel?", "leaves are falling down", and "Going on a bear hunt" for music today.

We are talking about the letter F.  We also read "Going on a leaf hunt" by Steve Metzger.

Stay & Play:

We read " Chester " by Syd Hoff (about a horse)

We painted with watercolors inside stencil shapes.

W did "Get ready, get set, Let's dance" and "This is the way we do it" an actions song for music time.

We had cars, garages, and raceways out today. 

We had magnetic faces pieces and pumpkin shapes. The children used the pieces to make faces on the pumpkins.

We read " The little red hen" by Paul Galdone

We asked the children if they have ever helped their mom bake or cook?

We painted with funny brushes using fall colors.

We did roller painting on a barn shape at the easel.

We sang "Old Mc Donald had a farm", "Shoo Fly", "Everybody clap your hands" for music time today.

We did a rhyme called "5 little apples" and we used the apple sauce we made to make our own apple tarts today.  We had some with snack.

Maple room- Morning class

We read "Brown Bear Brown Bear, What do you see?" by Eric Carle

We did a 3 D art project today.  We painted onto wax paper and rolled a paper towel roll with one sheet of paper towel still attached to it. The paint went onto the paper towel.

We painted at the easel with red, blue and yellow paint.

We did "the October song, Brown Bear song, We acted out Brown bear, (The kids play the part of the animals in the song" and we did "If you're happy and you know it"

We practiced writing the letter B on dry erase boards and we made a list of words we could think of that begin with the letter B.  We asked the children if they have the letter B in their name.

We did the nursery rhyme "Little Boy Blue"  We are learning colors through nursery rhymes and songs. We have our art in the hall from our activities.

We painted with paint brushes made form hay and from plastic mesh and we used blue paint.
We had different textured brushes at the easel for painting with blue paint today.

We did "The October song" , "Freeze dance", "jump jim joe (and we wore music bell belts)" and "Itsy bitsy spider" for music time today.

We did "The color kittens" story by Margaret Brown and "Bring on the blue" by Candace Whitman

Stay &  Play

We read "A fly went by" by Mike McClintok

We glued wood shapes, fun foam pieces, paper shapes and pom poms onto a leaf shape or an apple shape.

We did "Over the deep blue sea" and "Cool bear hunt" for music time today.

We enjoyed a lot of fun in the kitchen with dress up clothes and dolls and building fun too.

Oak Room:  Pre- K class

We read "The growing story" by Ruth Krauss

We worked on our all about me books today- we did our favorite color, and self portrait pages.  We had leaf shape paper at the easel to paint using fall colors.

We did some weighing and measuring objects in the room- we did bead sequencing and had out a 5 senses puzzle.

We did "leaky umbrella" using maracas and we did a group activity of comparing sizes on a magnetic board.

We had face magnetic pieces the children could use to create funny faces.

We made a list of the words that start with the letter E.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Thursday, October 11, 2012

WINDY, WINDY Day today, but we played outside ! 


Willow Room- T/TH class

The little Red Hen by Paul Galdone was our story today.

We asked the children if they have ever helped mom cook or bake?

We painted with funny brushes in fall colors.

We had roller painting on a barn shape at the easel.

We used the applesauce we made the other day to make apple tarts.

We did "Old Mc Donald had a farm", "Shoo fly" and "Everybody clap your hands" for music time.

We did 5 little apples at our second circle.

Maple Room- Thursday class

We did "Chicka chicka boom boom" by Bill Martin Jr.

We also read Chicka chicka 123 by Bill Martin Jr.

We did "alphabet letter sounds", "freeze dance" and "can't sit still" for music time.

We played an alphabet memory match game and Chicka chicka boom boom- each child got to pick letters and name them before adding them to the coconut tree.

The children practiced writing letters ( they called it their homework)

Oak Room- pre- k class

We read "I like me" by Nancy Carlson and " I am me" by Karla Kuskin

We did fingerpainting and made a handprint in our "All about me book"

We played a shapes game, had a new magnetic board :Make a face"

We brought in puppets, they kids had so much fun telling stories with the puppets and being the audience.
We did "Body rock- using jingle bell belts.

We also picked a card with a body part on it and we made up a movement for that body part.

We asked the children if they have the letter E in their name.

Stay & Play 

We read "The Ugly pumpkin" and we made pumpkin collages

We did "Down around the corner at the pumpkin shop" " 5 little pumpkins" "Bear Hunt" and "Hands are for clapping" for music time.

We enjoyed playdough and floor puzzles plus did some extra reading with books.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Wednesday, October 10, 2012

We played outside today, the day was cool and windy.  Please remember jackets!

Willow Room: MWF class

We read "Apple Farm Annie" by Monica Wellington

We asked the children "What are the things we can do with apples?"

We glued seeds to an apple shape for art and we had pumpkin shapes at the easel that we painted with ornage paint.

We did "Sammy", "There is a wiggle in my toe" and "Skinnamarink" for music time.

We talked about the different parts of an apple, we guessed how many seeds are in a green apple, a yellow apple and a red apple.  We cut up the apples and cooked them with some cinnamon and sugar to make apple sauce. We ate some of the apple sauce with our snack.

Maple Room- Morning class

We did the story "There was an old lady who swallowed some leaves" by Lucille Colandro

We used eye droppers with watercolors on paper towels. We had leaf shapes with paint at the easels.

We did "The October song" "Down around the corner at the pumpkin patch" for music time.

We did letter B activities, the alphabet monster box, letter B book, letter B puzzle.

Maple Room- afternoon class

We read "Wide mouth frog"

We painted on paper plates with green paint to look like a frog.  We had leaf shape paper at the easel for painting today.

We are learning about the color green.

Oak Room: Pre- K class

We read "Even more parts" by Tedd Arnold and "When I get bigger" by Mercer Mayer

We wrote in our journals and drew pictures of things that start with the letter E.

We did "Come and get a smiley face", "When I was a little fish", and "Hands are for clapping for music time.

We read a book abotu the letter E and we did the mystery bag with objects that start with the letter E

Stay & Play:

We read "Danny and the Dinosaur go to camp" 

We painted with vinegar and cornstarch mixed together.

We did "We are the Dinosaurs" move around the room with maracas pretending to be dinosaurs.

We brought in puppets and told stories using them.
