Activities for Monday, April 26

All classes went outside today.

Willow Room: MWF class

We read "Planting a rainbow" by Lois Ehlert and asked the children if they have ever planted a garden?

We planted grass seeds today. We had painting at the easel today with colors cantaloupe, magenta, and green apple.

We had out puzzles, a vocabulary classification board, a fun foam building board, an alphabet maze and a number game.

We are practicing our Mother's Day songs and we did children's request songs.

We have fake flowers in our sensory table, we read a second book today called Show me your smile.

Maple Room:

We read Clifford's Spring Clean Up by Norman Bridwell

We made flowers out of egg cartons.

We practiced our Mother's Day songs. We are learning about the letter "U".

Oak Room:

We read "Because a little bug went Ka-choo!" by Roseta Stone

We were working on a special picture today- you will have to wait to see it.

We sang our ABC sounds song and we practiced our Mother's Day songs.

We changed our dramatic corner into a housekeeping corner.

Activities for Friday, April 23

Willow Room: MWF Class

We didn't read our story today because the children spent so much time having great discussion time.

We looked at x-rays and we made our own x-ray pictures by using Q-tips as bones on black paper.

We practiced our Mother's day songs and we did the honey ppot game at music time. We played outside.

Maple Room:

We read "Mouse's first spring" by Lauren Thompson

We made something special for a surprise at art today, you will have to wait to see it later. We had stampers at the easel.

We sang our April song and practiced some songs for mother's day.

We practiced writing our letters on our dry erase boards.

We played outside.

Oak room:

Today was our beach day! We had so much fun with all of our beach day activities.

We sat on our beach towels and listened to "Froggy learns to swim" by Jonathan London

For art today we used stencils and put glue inside the stencil; then we sprinkled colored sand onto the glue adn moved the stencil.

We had water tables int eh room with cups, fish, and nets. We had a sand tub with wet sand and molds to make shapes in the sand.
We had magnetic fishing in tubs of water.

We sang underneath the broomstick, played beach boys music"surfing song" and we used the parachute with beach balls and balloons in the gym. We ate snack in the gym on our beach towels.

We played a guessing game "Whats' in my beach bag?

Activities for Wednesday, April 21

Willow room- mwf class

What makes a rainbow? by Betty Ann Schwartz was our story today. We asked the children if they had ever seen a rainbow.

We made rainbows out of colored popcorn. We took plain popcorn and shook it in a bag with powdered paint. We had small broken pieces of crayons at the easel to help strengthen fine motor muscles.

We practiced our Mother's Day songs and we sang the pirate ship song. We played in our doctor's office and our flower shop.

We played outside today.

Maple room:

we read Michael Recycle by Ellie Bethal

We talked about earth day today. We turned off the lights for some of our morning and just used natural light from our windows. We made a rolled beads necklace for earth day using recycled materials. At the easels we painted on newspaper!

We sang our April song, and 3 r's (reduce, recycle and reuse)

We are beginning to learn our addresses.

We played outside- thank you earth!

We read Mister Seahorse by Eric Carle

We did a watercolor process for a surprise project.

We had some colored linking shapes to arrange in a pattern out today, a lego building project, and duplo blocks out too. We also had out magnetic fishing games.

We played match the fish- a color changing story.

We had our estimating jar out today.

Activities for Tuesday, April 20

Willow Room:T/TH class

Our story today was "Two little caterpillars" and we looked at how our caterpillars are changing. We asked the question "Did you ever fly a kite?"

We started making some caterpillars using egg cartons. We painted them green or brown.

We had some shape puzzles- basic shapes. We had a car puzzle and some rhyming word puzzles.

We practiced mother's day songs.

We played outside today. We have a flower shop in our sensory table and our doctor's office is open in the dramatic corner.



Oak Room:

Our story today was "Where does the butterfly go when it rains?" By May Garelick

We are making butterfly wings to go with our toilet paper tubes. The tubes will be the butterfly bodies and this will be the wings. We used paint and rolling sprinkle balls to make the wings.

We sang "Come and buy a butterfly, put your finger on and missing fish.

We did "My ,oh, my, a butterfly. we brought some new toys into the room.

We played outside today.

Activities for Monday, April 19

Willow Room- MWF class

We read "The Mixed Up Chameleon" by Eric Carle. Our queston was "Did you ever fly a kite?" and for our second circle time we sang a 5 little kites song and we looked at how are caterpillars are changing into chrysalis.

We made kites using patchwork color squares.

we had the sorting color socks game out, a felt game, and a mouse sorting by colors.

We practiced our songs for Mother's day.

We played outside on the playground.

We have our doctor;s office open int he dramatic play area and we have a flower shop in our sensory table.

We read "The grouchy ladybug" by Eric Carle

We painted small paper bowls red to make lady bugs and at the easel we had butterfly shapes we glued tissue paper onto.

We sang our April song and practiced some special songs to sing for Mother's day.

We introduced the letter "T". Our caterpillars have formed their chrysalis so now we will graph how long they stay in there before emerging as butterfly.

We played outside.

We read "The hungry caterpillar" by Eric Carle

We cut out leaf shapes and used caterpillar stampers to make designs on the leaves.

We sang bringing home a baby bumble bee, missing fishing game, put your finger on. We also looked at a book "from egg to butterfly".

Activities for Monday, April 12, 2010

All classes played outside today!

Willow room- MWF class


We read "Clara Caterpillar" by Pamela Duncan Edwards

We asked "Do you have the letter "R" in your name?

For art we are making caterpillars using green paint and egg cartons.

We had out some of our new toys and some of our favorite toys today, a lock board, snap blocks, bristle blocks, a colored socks sorting game, a felt book and number puzzles.

We practiced our songs for Mother's Day. We have our doctor's office in the dramatic play area, and we measured our caterpillars to see how much they have grown. We also looked a the moth cocoon.

Maple Room:

We read "Growing like me" by Holly Keller

We cut butterfly wings from paper.

We had dab a dot painting at the easels.

We sang the April song, and alphabet sounds

We started talking about the letter "S" We added 3 more days to our graph for our caterpillars and moth. We have a pizza parlor in our play kitchen.

We read "Don't eat the teacher" by Nick Ward

On butterfly shapes we put colored tissue paper that "bleeds color" when wet. The colors then make a design on the butterflies wings.

We sang 2 little blackbirds, animal actions, and hands are for clapping.

We are watching our caterpillars and moths to see the transformations.

Activities for Friday, April 9, 2010

Willow Room- MWF class

Our caterpillars and moth have arrived- we dipped the luna moth in water for 60 seconds to help it know it is time to start changing. It will ope into a luna moth in a few weeks. Our caterpillars will change into chrysalis soon and then into painted lady butterflies. We looked and measured our caterpillars, we will see how much they grow next week.

We had raindrops at the easel with paint. We made wrapping paper, bug prints.

We played with our new bristle blocks, some alphabet puzzles for the letters "P" and "Q". We also had out some color sorting keys. We sang Herman the worm and we played outside today.

We enjoyed using our doctor's office in the dramatic corner. We help all our dolls feel well again.

We read "Waiting for wings'" by Lois Ehlert

We did dot art at the table and had water colors at the easel.

We sang ribbons in the air with ribbons, the April song.

We practiced writing our letters. The caterpillars arrived today and we estimated how many days they will eat before they become chrysalis. We made a graph to record our data.

We played outside on the playground today.

Oak Room-

We read "A fish out of water" by Helen Palmer and a book about the letter "Z"

We did bubble wrap painting and then made prints of the paintings.

We did some rhyming match up puzzles and a letter "Z" puzzle.

We sang "Went to the pet store"

We played on the playground.

We read "Splish, splash spring" By Jan Carr

We asked "Do you have an umbrella?

We finished working on our Mother's day gifts. We had watercolors at the easel.

We had out shape matching cards, a lock board, magnadoodle, some puzzles, color matching keys, a felt book with felt pieces and some number snap blocks.

We did some action songs for gym today- warm up time, bean bag rock, bendable, stretchable, since we could still not use the gym today.

We sang skinnamarink, may there always be sunshine and we love Mother's .

We played in our doctor's office in our dramatic corner.

Activities for Wednesday, April 7, 2010

Willow Room- MWF class

We read "The umbrella day" by Nancy Evans Cooney and we asked the children if they have an umbrella.

We worked on our Mother's day gifts for art today. We had watercolors at the easels with an umbrella shape.

We had a felt picture book, bug puzzles, magnetic letters, ans some sorting activities out today. We have some new science texture materials too.

We did some action songs in the hallway today as we could not use the gym and it was raining outside. We did warm up time, moving every day, and bean bag rock.

For music we did a raindrop umbrella rhyme, sang Hello everybody, yes indeed, and may there always be sunshine.

Maple Room:

We read "The very hungry caterpillar" by Eric Carle

We painted egg cartons with green paint to make the body of a caterpillar. We painted butterfly shapes at the easels.

We sang the April song, from head to toe, Freeze dance with bell belts, and Jump Jim Joe also using the bell belts.

We did some letter "R" activities and did a rhyming game.

Oak Room:

We read "Fish is Fish" by Leo Lionni

We drew "Z" pictures in our journals today and we took the children in small groups to play a listening lotto game- called sounds at home.

We had some sea shell sorting, attribute blocks with trays, and some colored keys for sorting.

We sang some songs today and we recorded the children singing which we will record onto a CD to play for the children. We sang Herman the worm, this old man, and the alphabet sounds songs.

We did some sink and float experiments with different objects.

Activities for Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Willow Room- MWF class

We read Arthur's Boo Boo Book by Maarc Brown. We looked at our doctor tools for our dramatic corner which is set up like a doctor office.

We worked on some special gifts for our moms for Mother's day.

We had out our sorting color socks, an alphabet letter maze,a bug and butterfly puzzle and some green play dough.

We sang stomp, stomp, clap, walking shoes, moving every day.

2 little blackbirds, today is Monday, and sunshine song.

Oak room:

We read Gilbert in Deep by Jane Clarke and Charles Fuge

We cut out a whale shape with a hole cut out of the middle. We put hair gel and fish stickers in a baggie and taped it to the whale to look like a stomach.

We did musical chairs today

Our dramatic play area has been turned into a beach with a pretend pool, barbecue pit and picnic area.

All classes went out to the playground today.

Willow Room- MWF

We read the story "Spring" by Daniel Moreton and we looked for signs of spring. We also asked the children "Do you have the letter "Q" in your name?"

At our second circle time we looked at doctor tools and we talked about our dramatic corner which is set up as a doctor office.

We worked on a special art project for our moms.

We had some of our new table activities out, the children are really enjoying the new alphabets and counting games we just got.

We sang "animal actions, and 2 little blackbirds.

Maple Room:

We did finger painting to make hand prints for a caterpillar.

We had chalk on dark paper at the easels.

We sang our April song, Alphabet sounds and months of the year.

We did some letter "R" activities and had some of our new toys out in the room.

Oak Room:

Gilbert the great by Jane Clark and Charles Fuge was our story today.

We used rubber worms to make our painting today. We turned the pictures into turtle shells and have them hanging in the halls.

We sang bubble gum, bubble gum, Herman the worm and come and get a smiley face.

We are talking about the letter "Z" and talking about under the sea.

ACtivities for Thursday, April 1

Willow Room- T/TH class

We did two nursery rhymes today, "Simple Simon" and "I'm a little tea pot" and we asked the children "Do you like pie?" We also looked at a real tea pot.

We made a pie to eat at snack. We made a large group art project with bug stampers and pastel paint on a large piece of paper.

We put together a 48 piece puzzle of nursery rhymes today. We also had puzzles out, rhyme puzzles, and some snap number blocks.

We acted out the rhyme- I"m a little tea pot" and we sang bubble gum, ubble gum. and silly dance contest.

We played on the playground today.

Maple Room: Thursday class

We read Franklin in the dark by Paulette Bourgeois

We did kids picks for music.
We played a beginning sounds listening lotto game. We measured each other and the table to see how many ladder steps long we were.

Oak Room:

We read "Rainbow fish- a surprise story" by Marcus Pfister

We cut a wedge out of a paper plate to attach as the tail to make a fish- the cut out became the mouth and the wedge was the tail. We painted it and glued on sparkles.

We had out some ABC fish and picture pattern shapes.

We sang "Can you leap like a frog?" and "Get ready, get set, let's dance"

we played on the playground today.

Activities for Wed., March 31, 2010

Willow Room- MWF Class

We did two rhymes today- Simple Simon and I'm a little tea pot. We asked the children what kind of pie they like? We looked at a tea pot and looked at "P" items.

We did a large group project of painting on a large paper with stampers and paint. We had chalk at the easel. We also made a pie to eat at our tea party at snack.

We acted out the tea pot rhyme, did bubble gum son, and hokey pokey. WE played outside today and enjoyed some of our new classroom materials.

We had spring themed cookie cutters for our play dough.

We looked at the flowers beginning to grow outside our building.

Maple Room:

We read "Franklin's Neighborhood" by Paulette Bourgeois

We used green glitter paint and glue to paint on paper plates and cover them with green tissue paper. We will turn them into turtles.
We had turtle shapes with paint and textured stampers at the easels.

We did a rhyming word matching game. We also played with several of our new games and materials.

We played outside on the playground.

Oak Room:

We read "Rainbow fish and friends- A fishy tale" by Marcus Pfister and I am a dolphin by Darlene Stille

We worked on "Y" pictures in our journal. In small groups we played a matching rhyming game. We also enjoyed several of the new classroom materials in our classroom.

We did a fish alphabet matching game matching upper and lower case letters. We had some sea life puzzles out.

We sang "We went to the pet store", sing the alphabet backwards, and the little fish.

We had the estimating jar out, we had to guess how many sea creatures.

We played out side on the playground today.
