All classes played outside today!
Willow Room: T/TH class
We did the nursery rhyme Hickory Dickory Dock
We talked about the fun things the children did over spring break.
We did "...and the dish ran away with the spoon" at art, we took paper plates and painted on them with shaving cream and glue, powder paint and salt. We used a spoon to mix it all and we noticed the textures, sounds, and smells.
We had some shape peg mice, puzzles, an alphabet magnetic board, airplane counters, magnadoodle, and some number snap blocks out on the tables today.
We sang "Little fish", "walking shoes," and did some nursery rhymes.
Oak Room:
We read "Rainbow fish and friends lost at sea" by Marcus Pfister
We traced the children's hands and they cut them out. They painted them purple, added some google eyes to make octopus to hang around the room.
We talked about what we know about the sea. We sang "Goldfish, goldfish what do you see?", "Five little fish teasing Mr. Shark"

We are still learning nursery rhymes and today our rhyme was "Hey Diddle Diddle". We asked the children "What did you do over spring break?

We are beginning our under the sea unit.
We cut out fish shapes and painted them with watercolors. They will be part of our under the sea bulletin boards.

Willow Room:
We read "Itsy Bitsy Spider" by Keith Chapman and we reviewed the nursery rhymes we have learned. We asked "Do you have the letter "P" in your name?
We pained using powder paint and water. We had alphabet letters at the easel.
We had some snap together counting blocks for fine motor and counting
We had some color counting keys
alphabet letters and a magnet board
We sang Jump Jim Joe, Stomp and Clap and Brown bear, Brown Bear.
We got to go out to the playground today.
Maple Room:
We read "Pancake, Pancake" by Eric Carle
We made pancakes from scratch and we painted pancake shapes with paint at the easels like blueberries and chocolate chips.
We sang the March song, YMCA, shout, and move it and used shakers with them. We also played "Pass the pancake" by passing a pancake around on a spatula.
We played outside today!
We did some letter "Q" activities.
Oak Room:
"Froggy plays soccer" by Jonathan London was our story today.

We talked about what do we need a clock for?
We made a clocks by gluing numbers and a mouse on a clock.
We painted at the easel with green glitter paint.
We had out some of our new toys at the tables today; the color sorting game, some shape matching cards, counting keys, a nursery rhyme felt board, and some puzzles.
We sang "If you are happy and you know it" and "Bear hunt".
We went outside today, the weather was beautiful!
Maple Room-
We read "The night before St. Patrick's Day" by Natasha Wing
We used cut green peppers dipped in green paint to make a shamrock shape . We had green paper with gold and green glitter paint at the easels.
We sang some kid picks today and the March song.
We followed clues around the building to hunt for a pot of gold which held some special gold coins.
We got to play outside on the playground today again, it was great to get outside.
Oak room:

We worked in our journals on pictures that start with the letter "X". We took the children out of the room in small groups to play one of our new math games where we worked on some simple addition. It is a great concrete way to teach this math skill.
We sang "Patty the shamrock", deep in the jungle (and we used drums with it), and list of dances.
We went outside today.

We played a flashlight game of looking for the light.
We painted stars for our ceiling with glitter paint. We had chalk at the easels.
We had out some of our new equipment- We had a color sorting game. We had some new rhyming word puzzles.
We sang the fish song, skinnamarink and tommy thumb
We went to the gym today even though it was beautiful out. Our large motor time is early and it was still cold. We will have to work out our schedule so we can get outside when it is nice.
We hid stars in our room and looked for them.
Oak Room:

We made shamrock pictures with green peppers cut in half dipped in green paint.
We did a version of the elephants went out to play song, we did a frog went out to play on a tight rope- he called another friend to join him. We also sang "who stole the cookie from the cookie jar."

We did "Twinkle twinkle little star" today and we read a story about night time called "Lights Out, Night's out" by William Boniface
We asked the questions "Do you have the letter "O" in your name?" At our 2nd circle we made a list of words that begin with the letter "O".
At art, we used silver glitter paint and dipped cookie cutter star shapes in it. We pressed them onto dark paper to make it look like twinkling stars.
We had some of our new table toys out, some counting keys and a rhyming word puzzle.
We sang a fish song today. We also played a flashlight game.
Maple room-
We read "To Market, to Market" by Anne Miranda as we are talking about grocery stores now.
We finger painted with chocolate pudding and at the easels we had paint with brushes.
We did some rhyming words at music, we sang Windy day, The March song, Wee Leprechaun, 5 little shamrocks, and list of dances.
We did a letter rhyming game to market, to market.

We are beginning our under the sea adventure.
We cut out pail shapes and sponge painted tadpoles in the pail.
We sang 5 green and speckled frogs, come and buy a donut, and 5 little tadpoles.

Willow Room- MWF class
We read "The mixed up alphabet" by Steve Metzger and our question today was What is your favorite letter? We also reviewed the nursery rhymes
For art today we finished putting our "Humpty Dumpty's" back together again and we had watercolors at the easel today.
We had an airplane counting game out with colors and counting. We also had a nursery rhyme felt board game out. We brought in some of the new materials that just came in, some counting keys, some rhyming activities and some nuts and bolts.
We sang "Over the deep blue sea" and "Dog in school", we did some nursery rhymes.
We went for a walk outside around the school today, It was so nice out, but we could not play in the playground yet as it is too wet. We saw some of the green plants beginning to grow, we picked up some small pine cones and we saw the children in the classrooms downstairs through the windows. We enjoyed getting outside.

We read "Gregory, The Terrible Eater" by Mitchell Sharmat
For art today we did painting in a box using clementine oranges dipped in paint. We painted at the easel with little "broom like" paint brushes.
We sang "Put your little foot", "Little Driver", "Itsy, Bitsy Spider" and "The windy day"
We practiced writing our letters on our wipe off boards.
We changed our dramatic play center over into a grocery store- the children helped create the area and had such a good time deciding how to do it and bringing everything in to set it up. They did a great job.
We went for a walk around the school today. Loved getting outdoors.

We read "Little Cloud" by Eric Carle
We looked at some cards that showed emotions and talked about why he/she feels those emotions.
We dripped white paint on paper and folded it in half to make a picture that looked like a cloud. We asked the children what their cloud looks like?
We had out some word building puzzles to make words. We had magnetic writing boards too.
We did the "Mack Chicken Dance" and an emotions song.
We took a walk outside and looked for signs of spring.

We read Moon Plane by Peter McCarty
We made our own finger paint, we started with a precooked mixture of cornstarch and water and the children will add some color and fingerpaint. It seemed a little thick so we added some flour and water and created our own mixtures as we experimented.
We had some matching peg shapes on wooden dowels to follow the pattern.
We sang "I like my hat" a bean bag song, and we did musical chairs.

We have had so much fun acting out the 3 little pigs story over and over. We take turns being the pigs and the wolf and we have the story in song form on a Cd so as it plays over and over the children keep acting it out.
We read "The true story of the 3 little pigs" by A. Wolf
We had watercolors at the table.
We had some letter "P" activities out.
We did a Leprechaun rhyme, can't sit still, rhyme time and an alphabet song for music.
Wednesday, March 10
We are moving into grocery store, but we still have our construction zone set up and the children still acted out the three little pigs again today.
Oor story today was "Don't forget the oatmeal! by BG Ford
We did a grocery list activity at the table and at the easels we had shamrock shapes with sponges and gold paint.
We had letter "P" activities out and a number game.

Although we know in the original rhyme the "crown" jack breaks is his head, we decided to treat it as his royal crown, so we made new crowns for Jack.
We painted at the easel with different kinds of brushes and purple and pink paint.
Tuesday, March 9
We also did the Jack and Jill activities with this class, but we also reviewed Mary had a little lamb and itsy bitsy spider.
We asked the question, are you happy that the snow is melting?
Wednesday, March 9 and Thursday, March 10
We did the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty and we read a story about it. We acted out the rhyme using a real egg and talked about things you can put back together like a puzzle vs an egg that you can't put back together.
We had magnetic letters at the easel.
We had out some letter puzzles and a shape box. We had out some shape and color activities out today. We also have a new airplane counting game.
We sang on the count of 5 and we played "pass the egg" to music.
For art we glued white pieces of tissue paper onto an egg shape and we will turn it into Humpty Dumpty

We read "Itsy Bitsy Spider" using flannel board props. Our question today was "Do you like spiders?"
We used small paper plates and black paint to make our own Itsy bitsy spiders. We had colored chalk and sugar water at the easels.
We had an alphabet magnetic board game out, some fruit to sort by color, a color maze, a magnetic season board, and an alphabet puzzle.
We sang Itsy, bitsy spider, the hokey pokey and tommy thumb.
Maple Room- Thursday class
We read "Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? by Tony Bradman and Margaret Chamberlain
The children illustrated their dictated stories of the 3 little pigs.
For music we do :Kid picks", each child gets to chose a song for us to sing.
We played a game where we matched upper and lower case letters.
Oak Room:
We read "Moo Cow Kaboom" by Thacher Hurd
We painted our planets that we made out of paper mache'. We painted them similar to the colors of the real planets and will hang them in our room.
We did our guessing game, where is the airplane?, Tommy Thumb is up and animal actions.
We read about the planet Neptune today.
We read "Itsy Bitsy Spider" using flannel board props. Our question today was "Do you like spiders?"
We used small paper plates and black paint to make our own Itsy bitsy spiders. We had colored chalk and sugar water at the easels.
We had an alphabet magnetic board game out, some fruit to sort by color, a color maze, a magnetic season board, and an alphabet puzzle.
We sang Itsy, bitsy spider, the hokey pokey and tommy thumb.
Maple Room- Thursday class
We read "Who's afraid of the big bad wolf? by Tony Bradman and Margaret Chamberlain
The children illustrated their dictated stories of the 3 little pigs.
For music we do :Kid picks", each child gets to chose a song for us to sing.
We played a game where we matched upper and lower case letters.
Oak Room:
We read "Moo Cow Kaboom" by Thacher Hurd
We painted our planets that we made out of paper mache'. We painted them similar to the colors of the real planets and will hang them in our room.
We did our guessing game, where is the airplane?, Tommy Thumb is up and animal actions.
We read about the planet Neptune today.

We read a flannel board story of "Itsy Bitsy Spider". Our question was "Do you like spiders?"

Maple Room-
We read The three little pigs as retold by Rochelle Larkin (a favorite fairy tales version)
We used cardboard and paint today to make our house of straw, it was a group project.
We had shamrock shapes and glitter paint with spool rollers at the easels.
We sang 3 pigs on a tightrope, the March song, and used clapper instruments to sing 3 little pigs blues, clap your hands and freeze. We also sang brown bear, brown bear.
We played in the gym with the new hockey nets.
We had some rhyme games, and letter "O" activities.
Oak Room:
We read "What the moon sees, what the sun sees" by Nancy Tafuri
We worked in our journals with the letter V today. We played some match and letter games in small groups today.
We broke up into smaller groups for music and gym today. We played with the new hockey nets and we sang Old McDonald had a band with instruments. We also did the cool bear hunt.
We read about the planet Uranus today.

Willow Room- T/TH class
We are learning about nursery rhymes this month
Our question today was "Who brought you to school today?"
We read "Sheep in a shop" by Nancy Shaw and we did "Mary had a little lamb"
We glued cotton balls onto a lamb shape.
We had out a fruit sort and match game, a weather magnet board, and some ABC stringing beads.
We did bean bag boogie song, finger in the air, and Old Mac Donald had a farm
We had some new gym soccer nets and balls to kick into the nets our today. We also had scooters out int he gym
We have new green playdough and some colored blocks to build with in the room.
Oak room:
We read "What is the moon full of?" by Shulamith Levey Oppenheim
We had the children tell us what they thought the moon was full of and for art they each drew a picture of what they thought the moon was full of. We had number pegs out, played alphabet sound bingo and had magnetic writing boards out too.
We sang "The planets song", "Two little blackbirds" (about opposites / actions) and "skinnamarink a dink a doo".
We played with our new floor hockey game today and we had new colored building blocks in the room.

We glued cotton balls onto a lamb shape for our classroom decoration. We did sponge painting with red, blue and yellow paint at the easels.
We had a fruit patterning game out, letter puzzles, and stencils out today.
We sang Mary had a little lamb, bean bag boogie with bean bags and put you finger in the air.
We have new green playdough and some new colored blocks in the room. They enjoyed building with them.

We are making paper mache' planets with news paper and a flour and water mixture. We will make nine to make the planets, this will be a class project.
We did "where is the airplane hiding?" game, Dog in school, stick to the glue, and your face will surely show it for music today.
We are talking about the letter V. We read a book about the letter V and a book about Saturn today.
We had a new floor hockey game with nets out in the gym today. We went over all the rules about safety (and they are preschool size and extra padded) and the children really enjoyed them.

Willow Room- MWF class
Our questions was "Who brought you to school today?"
Our story was "If you give a pig a pancake by Laura Numeroff
We did sponge dots in glitter paint. We will turn them into stars to decorate our classroom.
We had big pieces of chalk on blue paper at the easels.
We had out a new fruit patterning game, a sorting game, and some beads and stringing.
We sang "Sally the swinging snake"," put your hands up in the air" and "something special" all from Hap Palmer Cd's.
In the gym today we played with the parachute and balloons- we tried to make the balloons fly off the parachute by bouncing it up and down.
We have a new ball and tube toy in the room and styrofoam pieces in the sensory table.
Maple Room:
We are talking about construction and enjoying our construction zone in our dramatic play area. We had a special visitor today, one of the dad's came in and brought some tools, work aprons and a project. He showed the children how to follow the plans and build a wheel barrow planter. The children really enjoyed this special visitor.
We played in the gym with the parachute and balloons and tried to bounce the balloons off the parachute too.
Oak Room;
We read "Wilbur's Space Machine by Lorna Balian
We did a number of balloon activities today:
We did balloon drop painting (a lesson in gravity) The balloons contained sand.
Our teacher made a balloon rocket- she blew up a balloon, but didn't tie it off. She then attached it to a string that was kept down low on one end and attached up high on the other. We counted backward from 10 to the blastoff and she let go of the balloon and it scooted up the string. We tried it several different ways to see which worked best. Sometime the balloon just spun around the string and did not go anywhere, and sometimes it went right up the string to the top.
We sang jump to Jupiter and action space song. We also sang our planet song.
In the gym we played with the balloons and the parachute and we also did some partner games with the balloons. We did relay races, and played catch the balloons.
