NO SCHOOL FRIDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2011 or Monday, OCTOBER 10, 2011
We had a practice fire drill today- the children did a great job listening, follow directions and leaving the building safely. October is Fire Safety month, we will be having a visit by one of the Firemen from Mt. Prospect later in the month. Set up a fire safety plan at home.
We played outside in the playground today- it was beautiful outside!
Stay & Play:
We read "Where the wild things are" by Maurice Sendek
We painted pictures using cornstarch, vinegar and watercolors to make colorful pictures.
We sang March around the alphabet with letters, and Sticky Bubble Gum
We worked on a BIG Farm floor puzzle.
We loved the warm weather to play outside today. we spent extra time outside.
Willow Room: MWF class
We are talking about fall and apples! We asked the children "Which color apple do you like best?"
We read "Ten apples up on top" by Theo Leseig
We did a counting rhyme called "Mr. Appleworm"
For art today, we crunched tissue paper into small bunches and glued the pieces onto an apple shape.
We had magnetic gears at the easel.
We sang "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" and "Put your finger on..."
We have fun purple sand in the sensory table.
Maple Room: MWF class
We read "There was an old lady who swallowed some leaves" by Lucille Colandro
We used eye droppers and two colors of liquid water colors (They had a choice of red, yellow and blue). We dripped the color onto paper towels that we will use for a project.
We had leaf shapes and paint at the easel.
We sang "The October song," "Down around the corner @ the pumpkin patch", " Brown Bear"
We played a shape recognition game, "find the bird"
We did some letter "A" activities and we took the children out of the room in small groups to play a game.
Oak Room: Pre- K class
We are still talking about sense of touch
Hand, Hand, Finger, Thumb by Al Perkins was our story
We read a "D" book for learning about our letter D
We worked in our journals today and at the easel we had sand mixed into paint for texture.
We had 3 letter word puzzles
Farm animal sorting
Texture puzzles
We sang "5 senses song" and "The finger band"
We used a feely box- guess what is inside using your sense of touch.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Tuesday, October 4, 2011
We are enjoying some beautiful, warmer than usual fall weather and the children are having fun on the playground while we can!
Willow Room: Tue/Thu class (Terrific 2's and 3's)
Our story today was by Caroline Bailey and was "The Little Red House with no Doors and No Windows, and a Star Inside." The house is an apple and the star inside is when you cut an apple crosswise, you reveal a star with the seed in it.
We asked the children "Have you ever seen a star?"
We made apple print pictures using real apples cut crosswise to reveal the star and tempra paint.
We had magnetic shapes at the easel.
We did a rhyme "Way up high in the apple tree" and sang "Put your finger in the air", "Hello everybody" and "Little old Wagon" for music time today.
We have a new fun non scratching sand in the sensory table. Check it out.
Oak Room:
We read "10 apples up on top" by Theo LeSeig and "Little Mouse and the Big Red Apple"
The children drew picture sof themselves on the bottom of the paper and then used apple stampers to add apple prints for how many apples they could hold on top!
For music we did a fun memory game- "Which number apple is the worm hiding behind", we also did "Tasty apples, "one little, two little, three little, apples."
We are talking about the letter D now and we did a guessing game of what is hidden in our mystery alphabet bag that starts with the letter D?

Jim Gill concert- more information
I posted information about a children's music concert at the DuPage Children's museum this Saturday, October 8 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. It is a bit of a drive, but I wanted to make sure you know about it. This is not here at the preschool, it is in Naperville, Il. We use many of Jim Gill's CD's for music time here at Trinity Preschool and I have seen him perform with children before. As teachers, we have also attended workshops lead by him.
The museum's webpage has more information about all of their programs. I went to this museum this summer and really enjoyed many of their exhibits.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Monday, October 3, 2011
We played outside today- beautiful weather!
Today was our first day of Stay & Play (extended care)
We had bananas, crackers and yogurt for snack with milk.
We had extra time outside, and we made a nature wreath for art; we glued leaves onto a wreath shape.
For music we danced with scarves to "Moving everyday" and "Sally the swinging snake"
For story time we read "The boy who cried wolf" by BG Hennessy

We are talking about Apples and we told a flannel board story called "The little red house with no doors and no windows and we used a real apple!
We asked the children if they had ever seen a house with no doors or windows?
We made apple prints using real apples and tempra paint. We cut the apple in half cross wise (which reveals a stat inside)- dipped it in paint and pressed onto paper.
We had magnetic shapes at the easel.
We sang "Put your hands up in the air" "Hello everybody" and "Little Old Wagon" for music time today.

We read "The biggest pumpkin ever" by Elizabeth Bennett
We used orange paint and painted and stuffed paper bags to look like pumpkins.
We played an alphabet game in small groups
We have a new month and a new month song- the October song, we also sang "the months of the year." Letter sounds" and "Bean Bag Alphabet Rag"
Oak Room:Pre- k class
We read "The Apple Story" and cut an apple in half to see what was inside and we read "Applesauce Season" by Eden Lipson
We made applesauce. The children cut up apples to help make the sauce.
We sang "A-P-P-L-E, "Way up high in the apple tree", and "5 little apples"
We did a taste test with apple slices to see which was hte favorite. The results are posted outside our room.
We also did a science experiment to see what happens to apples once cut- we coated one in milk, one in lemon juice, and one with water.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Oct., 28, 29, 30- Oak roomRoom
Oak Room- Wednesday
We read "Arthur's eyes" by Marc Brown
We did a science experiment today. We mixed together two colors to make a new color. We used our eyes to see all the colors. The children watched a demonstration of the experiment at circle time, and then the children were able to do it themselves during choice time.
We wrote in our journals today and drew pictures of things that start with the letter "C"
We did "Brown bear, Brown Bear, What do you see?", "Gong on a bear hunt" and "Finger Boppin" for music today.
Thursday:
We read the story "little blue and little yellow" by Leo Lionni
The children cut out circle shapes and painted with blue and yellow to illustrate the story.
We had out the letter "C" puzzle, bead sequencing and in the sensory table we had beans, cups and spoons.
We did the color rhyme "Scat the cat", and Bean Bag alphabet rag,
We did a graph of whether we had the letter "C" in our name.
Friday:
We talked about our sense of hearing.
We read "The noisy way to bed" by Ian Whybrow
We also read "Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What do you hear? by Eric Carle
We colored on paper plates and turned them into shakers to make noise. We did a march around the halls and room with music instruments to hear the music.
We listened to sounds made with "eggs" filled with different object to match the two that sound the same.
We explored music instruments, which ones start with the letter "C"?
We did the 5 senses boogie- we danced using the shakers we made"
We counted by listening to the sound made when the teacher dropped a coin into a container.

We did a question today- "What is your favorite fruit, apple or banana?"
Friday:

We did a cutting project for a fall tree. The children cut the trunk shape and then sponge painted "fall leaves" on the tree top.
We painted at the easel with textured brushes.
We sang "The September song, danced to "List of dances" and sang "Sticky Bubble Gum".
We also read a book about the 4 seasons, called "All around the seasons"
