Maple room: MWF class 4 year old room

We read "the kiss box" by Bonnie Verburg

We used various kinds of potato mashers to make bright colored prints on light blue paper.

We had dab a dot painters at the easel.

We had stencils and dry erase markers at the easel too.

We did a shape recognition game "find the shape the bird is hiding behind"

We listened to a book on cd today " Pete the cat and his white shoes" 

We did the September song, 5 little ducks, way up high in the apple tree, for music time today.

Oak room pre k class

We read "if you give a dog a donut" by Laura Numeroff 

We did a crayon resist project.  We wrote the children's names with white crayon on white paper so the did not even see it was there.  Then we gave them water colors and told them to paint all over the paper to see the surprise.  They were very excited to find their names appear. We then gave them a sheet of white paper and a white crayon so they could draw their own design that appeared when they water colored on top of it.

We did underneath the broomstick, 5 magic rabbits, and a manners song called a polite old man for music time today.

We made a list of words we could think of that started with the letter a.

We practiced writing the letter " a " on a dry erase board.

We did a story starter activity based on the concept of the books we read this week " if you...." 

Willow room MWF class 3's

We read "if you take a mouse to school" by Laura Numeroff 

We painted using kitchen utensils, whisks, pancake turners, potato mashers, etc. on one large piece of paper for a group project.

We had dry erase markers at the easel.

We did an insects on the move rhyme 

We did hello everybody, sticky bubble gum, and late last night for music today.

Stay and play:

We read "little white rabbit" by Kevin Henkes today.  We put primary colors of paint, plus white in egg cups and the children mixed them to paint pictures.

We brought in some wooden ramps, with magnets and marbles for the children to explore.

We did I chaned my mind, (a fast and slow song) , put your finger in the air, and a house of shapes rhyme for music time today.

Trinity preschool activities for Thursday, September 11, 2014

Willow room 2's & 3's class t/th group

We read the book " my preschool" by Anne Rockwell 

We painted our hands today and made hand prints on paper.  We used dab a dot painters to decorate paper plates that we will use for our music time at school this year.

We did "teddy bear, teddy bear, ", if you are happy and you know it" and "put your hands up in the air" for music today.  We did a 5 little crayons rhyme today.

We have water in our water table and today we added bubbles to the water.

Oak Room- pre k class

We read " if you give a pig a pancake " by Laura Numeroff 

The children glued a barn shape onto a large piece of paper.  Then they used stamp pads and farm animals tampers to add some animals. They were able to use markers to add more details.

We did " who stole the pancake from the frying pan ?" And "ribbons in the air" where we danced with ribbons for music time today.

We did a graph today, "do you have the letter a in your name.  Then we talk about the graph and make comparisons .

We played a counting board game.

We made pancakes for snack today.

Maple room Thursday enrichment class

We read "llama, llama, time to share" by Anna Dewdney

We practiced writing our names.

We played a color and shape bingo game.

We played a pop and win alphabet bingo. 

We did "the alphabet sounds song", "the chicken dance", and "this is the way we do it" for music today.

Dancing kernels experiment in oak room 9-10-11

1 cup water

1/4 cup vinegar

Popcorn kernels

1teaspoon baking soda

Mix water and vinegar and add popcorn kernels .  What happens?  Then add the baking soda and it will get very fizzy (May bubble over, so have on a tray or table).  What happens to kernels now when fizzing stops? 

We talked with the children ahead of time about their prediction of what might happen.  Then we conducted the experiment as a group, and observed the reaction.  Each child got a small cup and were able to try it on their own as well.  

Trinity preschool activities for Wednesday, September 10, 2014

Oak Room - pre-k class

Today we read the book " if you give a pig a party" by Laura Numeroff and we gave the children materials to make party hats like the story. 

We also read the letter a book.

We worked on our journal notebooks today, something we will do each Wednesday .  Today we wrote the letter a and either drew a picture of something that starts with the letter a or traced a stencil of something that starts with the letter a.

We did "a polite old man", a manners song to the tune of this old man , we also did " I know a chicken" which is a fun action song, a fun action song with shakers.

We did an experiment today called dancing popcorn, using baking soda and vinegar . 

Willow room: MWF class 3 year old room

We read "my preschool" by Anne Rockwell.  We asked the children today " who brought you to school today?"

We painted our hands and then we made hand prints on paper.

We used dab a dot painters to decorate some paper plates that we will use as harts for music time at school this year.

We did teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around, if you're happy and you know it, and " put your hands up in the air" for music today.

We did a 5 little crayons rhyme today.

Maple room: MWF class

We read "quick as a cricket" by Audrey Wood

The children drew self portraits today using crayons, and looking in a mirror at themselves as they worked on their pictures.

We had tempra paint with textured brushes at the easel.

We did the September song, everybody has a face, head, shoulders, knees and toes, and brown bear got music time today.

We read "hippo not a mus " today too.

Stay and play:

We read "hands off my honey" by Jane chapman 

We used paddles tampers and bright color paint today.

We did over the deep blue sea for music and we played a guessing game about "what is missing" with a school theme.  We put several pictures of school related items on a board, then we take one away and the children guess which one is missing.

Trinity preschool activities for the Willow Room, MWF class for September 5, 2014

Today was a split day in our 3 year old room, we divided the group into 2 sessions with each group coming for half the morning.  

We had water colors and paint brushes for the children to paint a picture. We had the water table set up for some sensory fun, as water is a very soothing, comforting activity for children.  We also did music time and story time today. 

We read Spot goes to school by Eric Hill.

We did little fish, and brown bear for music time.

We had magnetic shapes at the easel.

We had a great first day today!

Stay and play activities today, September 8, 2014

Today was our first day of stay and play and we had a lot of fun.

We read a big book, called Frederick by Leo Lionni

We painted with water colors on large sheets of paper.

We played a rainbow color game and we played a listening bingo game. We listened to sounds played on a recording and had to match it to the picture of what made that sound.  

We did today is Monday, over the deep blue sea, sticky bubble gum, dog in school, and did the freeze dance while wearing bells  belts for music today.

We played on the playground today.
