Trinity Preschool Activities for Tuesday, November 8, 2011

We played in the gym today-

Willow Room: Tue/Thur. class

We had stories read to us today by one of the librarians form the Mount Prospect library. What a fun treat.

WE also had a story called "Breakfast for farm animals" (Who eats what food?")

We used watercolors on coffee filters and we will turn them into turkeys to decorate our room.

We had magnetic shapes at the easels.

We did an autumn leaves song using paper leaves. We also did the ABC letter sounds song.

We had feed corn in our sensory table that the children could pop the kernels off with their fingers.

We have a pretend horse in our farm area.

Oak Room:

We had the librarian in our room today too telling the children some stories.

We also told the story of the Three little pigs using felt board props.

We painted with potato mashers and red paint to look like a brick building.

We also glued packing peanuts onto a house shape and we have big building blocks in our dramatic corner.

We had the mystery bag with objects that start with the letter "I" in it

Three little Pigs Project

We do "The three little pigs in a few of our classrooms and in each they do it differently. We present the story a variety of ways and read many different versions. We act it out, retell it, use flannel boards, props, puppets and incorporate it into art.

In our Oak room this week, they are doing the Three little pigs . The children cut out three house shapes, then glued straw to one, sticks to a second and red squares of paper to the third. After they finished, they used a pig stamper to add a pig on top of each house.

Trinity Preschool Actitivites for Monday, Nov. 7, 2011

We played outside on the playground and used rakes and trucks to move the leaves around.

Willow Room: MWF class

We had the librarian from the Mt. Prospect children's library in to read to the children in our room today. What a nice treat! The library has such wonderful activities and materials for the children.

We asked the children if they have ever visited a library?

We used watercolors on coffee filters. We will turn them into colorful turkeys to hang in our room.

We had color shape magnets at the easel.

We did a color leaf song for music today.

We made a pretend horse for our dramatic corner, we had feed corn in our sensory table and the children picked the kernels off the corn- a great fine motor activity.


Maple Room:

We read "Run, Turkey, Run" by Diane Mayr

We also had the librarian read to the children in our class today.

We did corn cob rolling- we dipped corn in paint and rolled it back and forth in a box to make special prints.

We did "writing" with feathers at the easel. We painted with the pointy end of the feather.

We sang "Turkey in the straw", "November song", and "Turkey feathers" for music today.

We did letter E activities.

Oak Room:

We read The three little pigs story today and the children cut out house shapes from yellow paper. They glued them onto a big piece of paper and then added items to each to look like the three pigs houses. One had straw, one had sticks, and one had red paper cut to look like bricks. we then used a stamper shaped like a pig to put one over each of the houses. We will hang them in the hall.

We did "I know an old lady who swallowed a pie" 5 pigs in a house and 5 pigs go to town for music today.

We are talking about the letter I. We changed our dramatic play area into a building area with big blocks.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Friday, November , 2011

We played outside today- which was great after that rainy day yesterday.

Stay & Play:

We had Quesadilla's today with avocado and sour cream. We also had bananas.

We read "Wise up silly owl" by Steve Metzger

We drew with markers for art.

We did a few action songs- Animals Actions and "Here we go round the mulberry bush"
We brought in Dinosaurs and dinosaur books.

We played a hiding/ memory game- which honey pot is the bee hiding behind.

Willow Room: MWF class

We read two stories today "It's time" by Kathleen Deady and Cock-a doodle" by Cecily Matthews

We asked "Who brought you to school today?

We glued feathers onto a turkey shape for art. At the easel we painted with a real feather.

We sang "Tap your toe and follow me" "2 little blackbirds" and "brown bear"

Maple Room:

We had the story "I know an old lady who swallowed a pie" by Alison Jackson we used a prop "old lady" and prop pieces for her to eat. Pastor Dan helped with our story today.

We painted on bubble wrap and then made a print of our painting.

We had turkey stencils with paint brushes and googlie eyes.

We sang "November song, Turkey feathers, 5 little turkeys, hide turkey hide (a rhyme) and played pass the turkey.

We practiced writing the letter D on our dry erase boards, then we wrote some words and our names.

We did a color game/song "Turkey feathers"

Oak Room:

We read "Sam and the Firefly" by P.D. Eastman

We used letter stampers to make words on paper.

We had letter bead stringing, inch cubes and clay out today.

We did the ABC letter sounds song, using flash cards for new words that start with each letter.

Zip-i-dee- doo- dah letter sounds song

This is the way we do it action song too.

We talked about what starts with the letter H?

We also are finishing up our nocturnal animals unit and the children can name so many more animals that are nocturnal now. Talk to your kids about them.

November 2011 Newsletter- Trinity Preschool

Conferences for our T/Th Terrific 2’s and 3’s will be in the spring.

Planning ahead: HOLIDAY PROGRAMS- Kids come at 9:15

Thur., Dec. 15: Terrific 2’s and 3’s (parents come at 11:00 a.m.)

Fri., Dec. 16: Pre-K and MWF classes (parents come at 10:45 a.m.)

Winter Break: Monday, Dec. 19- Monday, Jan. 2- NO SCHOOL

Pest Control:

The church pest control service is done the 2^nd Wednesday of each month. No spraying is done in any of the preschool areas.

Parent Conferences: The sign up sheets are posted for conferences. If you cannot make it for a conference on Monday, Nov. 21; make arrangements with your child’s classroom teachers for another day that will work for you. On Monday, the 21^st- You may bring your child with you to your conference; we do have assistant teachers available to watch them while you are meeting with your child’s teacher,

Holiday Programs:

Our Holiday Programs will be during class time this year. Please plan to join us as the children will sing some songs and we will enjoy some refreshments together. You are welcome to include/invite whomever you think might enjoy coming. More information will come home from each classroom. Note dates and times above listed above.

Registering for 2011-2012

We need to start planning for fall 2012. I am trying to make sure all of our current families get in the class of their choice for next fall, so please let me know right away if you want your child in Trinity Preschool for the school year of 2012-2013. This includes siblings! Formal registration will be in January, but I will save a spot for those who let me know now. See Mary if you have any questions. Thank you.

Snack:

Snacks have been great, I love seeing the whole grain crackers – how wonderful it is that they offer that choice in favorites like Gold Fish and Cheese It products. Fruit is always a great choice too- canned or fresh. Just a reminder- No peanut products please.

If you forget snack or your child is sick, we will use a school snack- just send in a snack replacement please.

Sick Kids:

We are entering the big cold and flu season, so thank you for keeping sick children home; it will help keep everyone healthier this school year. Teach your child to cough or sneeze into their elbow instead of their hand, this helps cut down on the spread of germs from hand to surface. It is a good practice to always wash hands when you and your child enter your home.

Remember to call 847-357-1513 and let me know if your child will be absent.

Outside:

We play outside if the weather is dry and above 40 degrees. Please remember to send in jackets, hats, etc. as needed.

Stay & Play

Stay & Play is going great and we are having fun. The children are enjoying a healthy snack, many times helping to make it themselves. We play small group games, do more art, music, story time, choice time and either gym or outside time. If you don’t want to commit to Stay & Play all the time, that is OK too; you can do one, two or three days a week. You can also choose to join stay & play on occasion; especially helpful as we go into the Holiday season and you need a little extra time to get things done. Right now, Monday is our lightest day, but any day will work. You must give advance notice though, thanks.

Early Drop off:

We are open for early drop off at 8:30 a.m. or later. See Mary for fees.

Our lending library:

Please remember to return the books to the bookcase by our door so other children can borrow them as well.

School closing for Bad Weather

We follow School District 59 for school closings due to weather.

If they are closed, we are for sure closed. We have a link on our website to their closing information.

Scholastic Books

We will be sending home the book order forms in the next few days- this will be the LAST ORDER before Christmas!

Mt Prospect Library News:

The library is collecting new or “Like new” books to give to needy children. See the flyer posted outside classrooms or on the Parent bulletin board on the first floor for more information.

“ Movies & Momversation” is a library program for Moms- Wed., Nov. 9 at 9:30 a.m. they will have a movie and conversation time. They are showing the movie “Crazy, Stupid, Love” See the flyer posted on the parent bulletin board.

Other giving opportunities:

We will be collecting mittens and hats to give to needy children during Nov. and Dec.

We have a family in our school who works with the Salvation Army and I have told them to give me a wish list of things they need - which we will make available to families if you would like to help during the Holiday Season.

Holiday start earlier and earlier!

It seems like the holiday hoopla starts earlier each year and we have to remember that is because people want to sell us stuff! And, they try to make us believe we won’t have a good holiday without it!

Find ways to make the holiday meaningful without spending money- go for a walk or drive to see the lights, walk in the first snowfall, turn off the TV and read special holiday books. What lingers in memories are the special times we spend together, not the money we spend.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Thursday, November 3, 2011

Wow- what a change in the weather! Today is cold and super windy! We played with trikes, tunnels, a teeter toter alligator and a tossing game in the gym today.

Willow Room: T/TH class

We read "Whose home?" by Keith Faulkner

We used farm shaped stampers and dipped them in pastel colors of tempra paint to make prints.

We had chalk at the easel.

We danced to the song "silly dance contest" by Jim Gill and we did a Farm Animal sounds song Good day.

We have hay in our sensory table, farm puppets, and pretend farm animals in our barn. We have numerous farm related activities in our room.


Maple Room:

Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano was our story today. We did straw painting. We watered down tempra paint and dripped them onto paper using an eye dropper. Then we blew through a straw to move the paint on the paper.

We sang the November song, and then let the kids pick what they wanted to sing- they chose- Months of the year, Twinkle Twinkle little star, little fish, and Teddy bear, Teddy Bear turn around.

We played a color memory game and we worked on learning about patterns. The teacher made a pattern on a dry erase board and the each had to figure out what came next in the pattern.

Oak Room:

We read "Owl Babies" by Martin Waddell adn "Whooo's there" by Mary Serfozo

We painted with shower puffs.

We had out Mr. Potato head, number matching puzzles, and mosaic art pieces.

We did an action song called "Can you leap like a frog?" the "H song, and the November song.

We asked if their name has the letter H in it?

We did an experiment today on cleaning copper pennies. We used plain vinegar, vinegar and salt, soapy water and plain water. First the children guessed what they thought would work best, then we tried the different solutions and saw what worked and what did not. The vinegar and salt worked best, followed by plain vinegar. The water and soapy water did not do anything to clean the pennies. After we did it as a group, we put the solutions and some pennies with Q-tips at a table and the children were able to try it on their own.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Wednesday, November 2, 2011

We played outside today- one more great day before the weather cools off. We used balls, big trucks and rakes outside today.

Stay & Play:

We had fresh made pancakes with blueberries and bananas and syrup today.

We played a small group game about outside sounds .

We glued some pretty colorful sequins onto paper for art.

Willow Room: MWF class:

We asked the children "What is your favorite farm animal?
We read a story "Whose home? by Keith Falker

We used farm animals stencils to make pictures and used pastel paint.

We had chalk at the easels.

We did the Good Day song, and used farm animal puppets

We also did "Silly dance contest"

We added Hay to our sensory table and farm animals. We have LEGO's with farm animals too, and a gear farm in our room.

Maple Room:

We read "Thanks for Thanksgiving" by Julie Markes

We did a cutting project "I am Thankful" feathers for our "Thankful Turkey" which we will put in the hall.

We had acorn shapes with glitter paint and spool rollers at teh easel.

We sang The November song, Months song ( and talked about months) and we did the Freeze dance.

We read a second story called "I am walking" and we took a walk around the courtyard and looked at the flowers and bushes in there.

We did letter D activities. We had dry erase boards at the table and the children could practice writing their names or letters.

Oak Room: Pre- K class

We read "Don't laugh Joe" by Keiko Kasza and Cock a doodle hoooo! by Mick Manning

We cut out feather shapes for our Thankful turkey and we asked the children what they are thankful for- we will write their answers on the feathers.

We did bear hunt, silly sally and turkey in the brown straw for music.

We did a guessing game of objects hidden in a bag.

We are working on the letter H.
