Maple Room: MWF Class

We read "mouse paint" by Ellen Stoll Walsh

We did color mixing today on white paper with primary colors.  We mixed red, yellow, and blue to make secondary colors.

We painted with red, yellow and blue water colors on white paper.

We did a color mixing experiment. Then the children got to each try it on their own.

We did the October song, and the months song today.

We did a little mouse color rhyme.

We also read " my crayons talk" by Patricia Hubbard

Willow Room: MWF class

We are starting our farm unit

We read "cock a doodle doo, a barnyard hullabaloo " by Giles Andreae

We asked "Have you ever visited a farm?"

We painted with animals tampers on green paper to resemble a farm

We painted with ice cubes made out of paint on paper shaped like farmers overalls.

We did the old McDonald rhyme with a farm puppet mitt.

We made our dramatic play area to be a farm.

We have hay in our sensory table.

We did animal action, b I n g o, and hello everybody, yes indeed for music time today.

Oak room: pre k class

We had a special visitor to our class today, a nurse from Alexian Brothers Hospital who did a healthy kids program.  

We worked on our letter D journals.

We put sand in our paint at the easel today.

We are talking about the sense of touch.

We did "sing a song of senses", and "the little fish" for music time.

Stay and play:

We read "curious George's Dinosaur Discovery" by Margaret and HA Reys 

We made sparkley designs for art.  We dipped different shape containers, square, rectangle, and round into sparkly glitter paint to make shape designs.

We did the shape family rhyme, and we did "shapes" , a movement activity about shapes.

We played a color and shape Bingo game.

Willow Room- T/TH class

We told the story of the little red house with no windows and no doors and a start inside.  It turns out at the end to be an apple.

We used real apples to make apple prints on paper.  We used paint and when you press the apple that is cut in half crosswise, it makes a star shape print.

We had contact paper at the easel and the children stuck yarn pieces to the sticky paper.

We did Mr. Apple worm rhyme, and walking shoes and pass the bean bag for music today.

Oak Room: Pre- K class

We read "Ten Apples up on top!" by Theo Lesieg and we also read "Little MOuse and the Big Red Apple" by A. H . Benjamin

We gave the children a long piece of paper and they drew a picture of themselves at the bottom and then used an apple shape sponge to add apples up on top ( like the story).  At the top of the page we had a paper that said " I have _________apples up on top" and we counted how many apples they stamped on the paper and wrote that number.

We did "I like my hat", "On the count of Five" and "Sing a song of senses" for music.

We did an apple taste test.  We had a graph and each child tasted a red, green and yellow apple and chose which one they liked best.  We then counted how many liked each and used the gragh to talk about more or less.

We put bean bags piled on our heads to see how many we could pile like the story.

we are learning about our sense of taste this week.

Maple Room: MWF class:

We read "A new house for mouse" by Petr Horacek

We did marble painting with red and yellow paint.  We put marbles in paint and then onto paper that was in a box.  The children rolled the box back and forth to move the paint around on the paper.

We had rollers at the easel to use for painting.

We did the song "A P P L E" to the tune of Bingo, and we did the chicken dance, 5 little apples rhyme  and tommy thumb for music.

We talked about seasons, we read a Knowledge quest book (books designed to align with the common core learning standards) called "Skip through the seasons".

We have beans with pumpkins in the sensory table.

Willow Room: MWF class

We told the verbal story about the little red house with no windows and no doors and a star inside. (It turns out to be an apple)

We asked the children "Have you ever seen a house with no windows and no doors"

We cut a real apple in half and found the star inside.  Then we used it to paint apple prints.

We had contact paper at the easel and the children attached yarn to the sticky side.

We did pass the bean bag, and walking shoes for music time.

We did "Mr. Apple worm" rhyme

Oak Room: Pre- K class

We did a flannel board story about the apple house with no windows and no doors and a star inside.

We read "Apple Trouble" by Ragnhild Scamell

We cut up our apples we brought in to make applesauce, which we ate for snack today.

We had apple stencils at the easel.

We did our letter D chart.  We also graphed the apples the children brought in by color.  We talked about the different things we can make with an apple.  We are learning about our sense of taste.

We did "Way up high in the apple tree" and "List of dances" for music today.

Stay and Play:  We read "The Best Gift of all" by Jonathan Emmett

We painted on plexiglass and then made a print of our painting.

We did list of dances, couch potato pokey, underneath the broomstick, and pass the apple for music today.

Stay and play:

We read "curious George Goes Camping" by Margaret and A H Rey's

We shook powdered paint onto white paper and then spritzed it with water in a spray bottle.

We did this old man, a song with props, and an action movement song called last night I had a dream for music time.

Maple room: MWF class

We read "the mouse and the apple" by Stephen butler 

We did a cutting and tearing project today.  We gave the children strips of red paper and they tore them or used scissors to cut them into small pieces.  Then they spread red tinted glue onto a small paper plate and put their small pieces all over it.  We added an apple leaf to make our own apple art.

We had pot scrubber apple shape sponges at the easel.

We also listened to a book on a cd called apple trouble bt Ragnhikd Scamell

We did the September song, 5 little apples smiling at me, and down at the apple orchard for music time.

Oak room. Pre k class

We read the ear book and are talking about our sense of hearing

We colored paper plates and added streamers and beans to make our own sound shakers.  We will use them for some special music today.

We had some puzzles out that make sound, some sound comparison eggs, which sound alike?, and we talked about what words start with the letter c.

We had the soft play dough and small Legos out to build with today.

We read "Ten Red Apples" by Pat Hutchins

We asked the children "what is your favorite color apple?"

We painted with corks dipped in red, yellow, and green paint, pressed onto a tree shape.

We painted with paint brushes on apple stencils at the easel.

We sang, " if you are happy and you know it" "the way we do it", and the wiggle song, for music time today.

We did a rhyme about mr apple worm hiding behind an apple.

Willow Room- T/TH Class

We read "Yes, We can!" by Charles Fuge

We painted with foam textured rollers at the table today.

We used magnetic face pieces to make faces at the easel.

W did Sticky Bubble Gum, Wheels on the Bus, and Brown bear for music time.

We did a 5 little germs rhyme today too.


Maple Room- Thursday class

We read Llama, llama, Red Pajama by Anna Dewdney

We did Hands inside the circle, and sticky bubble gum for music time

We read a special book about counting with M& M candies and we used the candies to follow
along and do adding, subtracting, counting and graphing.


Oak Room: Pre- K class

We read "Little Blue and Little Yellow" by Leo Lionni

We did a literacy art activity to tie into the story too.  We had the children cut out a circle shape, then they were given some yellow paint and some blue paint.  When they painted them together on their paper, they got green paint, like our story.

We did a color bird rhyme - name other things that start with the same color as the bird. and we did the song "Colors" by Hap Palmer.  Each child is give a color to hold and when the song says to stand up or sit down, they follow the directions.

We made a corn starch and glue clay today to use at the sensory table

We did our letter graph, Does your name have the letter C in it?

Recipe for the play dough: original calls for equal parts of corn starch and Elmers glue, but I found  that I needed more cornstarch than glue.  It is also very sticky when you knead them together and I thought it would never be OK, but it ends of smooth and pliable.  Very soft, great texture, and gluten free if you are looking for that.

Willow room:  MWF class

We read "yes we can" by Charles fuge

We painted with foam textured rollers

We had magnetic faces pieces at the easel 

We did a 5 little germs rhyme., can't sit still song, little fish song, and what can you do with a bean bag activity with bean bags for music time today.

Oak room pre k class

We read I spy with my little eye by Edward Gibbs and the looking book today.  

We are talking about senses, and today we talked about the sense of sight. Sight is the only sense that can tell us what color something is 

We worked in our journal notebooks on pictures and words that start with the letter "c".

We had primary colors at the easel yesterday.

We did Carl the clown, which is a color rhyme, scat the cat, a color changing chant, and the 5 senses song for music today.

We had binoculars and magnifying glasses to explore seeing things with our sense of sight. 

We did an experiment with color mixing.  We mixed 2 primary colors to make a secondary color.  Everyone got to try it too.

We read the little mouse and the big red apple by a h Benjamin 

We made paper bag apples.  We stuffed newspaper into paper lunch bags and then tied the top shut. We painted them red, yellow or green to look like apples.

We had apple stencils with paint brushes at the easel.

We did tommy thumb, and the September song for music time today.

We talked about apples and made a list of all the things we know about apples.

Stay and play: 

We read a bedtime for bear by Bonny Becker 

We drew with markers and crayons on paper taped to the underside of the table.  Then we drew on paper on top of the table.we talked about how it felt different .

We did old macdonald finger play , jump Jim joe, and we did the freeze dance with ribbons.  

We spent extra time outdoors since it was glorious outside.

Trinity preschool activities for Tuesday, September 23, 2014

Willow room: terrific 2's and 3's

We read The" little mouse and the big red apple" by A. H. Benjamin 

We did a group art project today using kitchen sponges with long handles dipped I paint, red, green, and yellow.  

We had table top easels out with chalk and erasers on one side and dry erase markers on the other side.  

We did "Wheels on the bus", and we used felt props with it, and Timmy thumb, and come on and join into the game for music time today.

We learned about germs and talked about how they spread.  We talked about using tissues, washing hands, and coughing into our elbows.

Oak Room pre- k class

We read "nosy Rosie" by Holly Keller and we read "smelling" by Sharon Gordon. 

We painted with Koolaid mixed into a little bit of water to create paint with various smells.

We looked at objects in out mystery bag that start with the letter c.  We changed our dramatic play area to be a veterinarian clinic.

We did Herman the Worm, aaput your finger on, and The bearer hunt for music today.
