Oak Room- Pre- K class
"Curious George Visits the Library" was our story today.
We dripped paint down an incline board to look like colorful icicles. We have so many icicles hanging on all of the buildings this winter, it was fun to make our own.
We did "Colors" an active song, children need to listen carefully and stand up or sit down as the song directs.
We also did "Sammy" a song we move to for music.
We did patterning on a magnetic board as a group activity. What one comes next.
Maple Room- Thursday class
We did "Giraffes Can't dance"
We practiced writing words today, February, hugs, love, heart, red, pink, friends) and played a recognition game: We pulled either an alphabet letter or a word out of a bag and had to say if it was a letter or a word. We sounded out the words.
Willow Room- Terrific 2's and 3's class
We read "little Mouse's Big Valentine" by Thacher Hurd
We asked the children "Have you ever been to the post office?"
We finger painted with red and white paint on bubble wrap to make pink. The bubble wrap is a fun texture to finger paint on and gives the children a unique sensory experience.
We used x and O stampers at the easel on a hart shape ( X and O stand for hugs and kisses )
We did a 5 little letters felt rhyme, a hearts rhyme and we did Little Fish- let's go swimming, can you leap like a frog, and shoo fly for music today.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Wednesday, February 5, 2014
Maple Room; MWf class
We read "Tortoise brings the Mail" by Dee Lillegard
We used "Dab a dot painters" to make a negative print. The children dab all over the paper where we have a heart placed on top of the paper. After they dab all over it, we remove the heart and they have the heart that is colored and the negative space on the original picture.
We had heart shapes with red, purple, and pink tissue paper with glue.
We did letter L activities, we have a Valentine writing center at free art. the children are making pictures and writing Valentine theme words on the papers. We also did "design a stamp or a post card" at the free art table.
We have Valentine themed items in the sensory table today.
We skyped with family members in Poland.
We did the February song, Jump Jim Joe, Tommy Thumb, for music today.

We read "Never mail an elephant" by Mike Thaler
We asked the children "Do you have the letter F in your name?"
We looked at objects that start with the letter F.
We did "Little Fish ( Let's go swimming), "Can you leap like a frog?" and "Five fish swimming in the sea" for music today.
We also did a 5 little letters felt rhyme.

We read "I.Q. goes to the library" by Mary Ann Fraser
We worked in our journal notebooks on the letter S
We did a lady bug matching activity. Some had numbers, others had dots, they had to find their match.
We used rhythm sticks- we tapped slow for walking, tapped fast for jogging, and then when the bell rings, we stop.
We are enjoying our dramatic play library center.
Stay and Play:
We read "I love you with All my heart" by Noris Kern
We made paper plate heart wreaths- we had a heart shape cut out of the middle of the paper plate and the children used tissue paper and glue to decorate their wreath
We did Mr. Snowman, The Freeze dance using bell belts and come and get a smiley face for music today.
We brought in huge carpet tubes and the children put cars through them as we moved them ot different heights.

We are learning about the color pink and we asked the children "Are you wearing any pink today?"
We glued foam letters and a pretend stamp on an envelope shape today. We will use them to make our bulletin board.
We mixed red and white paint to make pink to paint with at the easel.
We did "Please pass the heart", "Skinnamarink", and "Sticky Bubble Gum" for music today.
We played an eye spy game. We sat in a circle and we put a number of different objects in the middle of the circle. We said a rhyme and then we "found" the objects.
Our dramatic play are is a post office.

We decorated a snowman shape with markers and put it on contact paper to make it look like a snow globe. We have them decorating our room on our windows.
We did "Bean Bag boogie", "Animal actions" and "Snowmen on sticks" for music today.
We have some special Valentine's treasures in our sensory table.

Trinity Preschool Activities for Monday, February 3, 2014
Willow Room: MWF class
We changed our dramatic corner into a Post office. We are learning about mailing letters and cards. We are making a mail themed bulletin board and the children used black paint and letter stampers to get our "envelopes" ready for the bulletin board.
When we come into class and find our names for attendance, they are written on an envelope shape now.In the morning we "mail" our names.
We had chalk boards at the easel.
We read "The jolly postman" by Janet and Allan Ahlberg
We did "please pass the heart" , "Skinnamarink", and "Sticky Bubble Gum" for music time.
We reviewed the letter E and we made a word chart of words we could think of that start with the letter E.

We read "D.W.'s Library card" by Marc Brown and we read "Lola at the library" by Anne McQuinn
We did marble painting on pink paper. They will be cut into heart shapes to put in an envelope on our bulletin board.
We did "the button factory", "Put your finger on", and "a snowball melting rhyme" for music time today.
We changed our dramatic corner into a library. The children love this change over. We have a special Trinity Preschool Library card for each child and they are in a box in alphabetical order. The children need to find their card and put it away too. Each child was brought into the office so they could choose a special book to take back to their class library. They thought this was so special to come and choose a book from the office.

We cut out house shapes to add to our bulletin board. We painted with textured brushes at the easel.
We did "The February song" for music today. We didn't get much music in today because the children were very interested in talking about the calendar and the special dates in February.
Our dramatic corner has been changed over into a post office.

We read "How rocket learned to read" by Tad Hills
We painted with circle objects and we also dipped the bottom of an egg carton that was cut into pieces onto our paper to make designs.

We read "A hat for Minerva Louise" by Janet Morgan Stoeke
We painted with tempra paint for art. The children were give paint cups with a color and a brush in each cup and large sheets of paper.
We had hat shapes at the easel today.
We did "The January Song", and "I like my hat" for music time.
We did letter P activities

We made snowmen with the shaving cream and glue mixture.
We did "Moving every day" and did the movement actions as we moved around the room. and "I changed my mind" for music.
We did letter R words and we asked the children "Does you name have the letter R in it?"

We made "Splendid snowballs" We took nylons filled with rice and dipped them in white glitter paint and silver glitter paint. The we bounced them up and down on our paper.
We painted with prickle rings on large letter "E" paper.
We did a snowman rhyme.
We had felt pieces that the children used to create snowmen.
We looked at objects that start with the letter E. We talked about how the letter sounds.

Oak Room: Pre- K room
We did Pajama Day today! This is one of our favorite events in class. The children come to school in their pajamas and bring a stuffed animal with them. We played "Pass Goldilocks and the bear" around the circle. We started by Passing a puppet Goldilocks around the circle and then when it was part way around the group, we started passing a bear around the circle too. We wanted to see if the bear could catch Goldilocks and he never did. Goldilocks ran out of our room.
We read "A pocket for corduroy" by Don Freeman ( the children laid on the floor on the rug and listened to the story laying down.)
We cut out overall shapes to make "corduroy's pants" . We glued them onto a bear shape, then drew a face and added buttons and pocket.
We acted out "10 in the bed" and "5 little monkeys"
We watched a DVD of the story "Corduroy"

We read "Harold and the purple Crayon" by Crockett Johnson
We fingerpainted with purple paint on a crayon shape paper.
We painted at the easel with purple paint and prickle rings.
We did "Who is at the zoo?", "Everybody clap your hands" and "Monkey Say, Monkey do" for music today.
We did a snowmen in the yard felt rhyme and played a "find the snowball hiding behind the mitten game

We read "One winter's day" M. Christina Butler
We practiced writing our first and last - focusing on using upper case and lower case letters. We played a math grab bag game, we had various items in a bag and the children reached into the bag to see how many they can grab in their hand and we counted them. We did marbles, plastic crabs, cotton balls, and inch cubes. We made a graph of how many they could hold. We found we could grab far more cotton balls than anything else and the children discussed why they thought that was. (They decided it was because they cotton balls could squish down in our hands) we made a big graph of our results.

"There was an old lady who swallowed some snow" by Lucille Colandro was our story today.
W made glue and shaving cream snowman. We used the shaving cream and glue mixture on a snowman shape. Then we added embellishments for eyes, nose, etc. and sprinkled glitter over the picture.
We used water color pencils and white paper at the easels.
We did "The January song", Snowman Pokey, and "Tommy Thumb" for music time.
We had soapy water and polar animals in the sensory table.
We made beaded snowflakes- a fine motor activity.
We did letter "P" activities.

and "The very cranky bear" by Nick Bland
We have some new ramps, and marbles equipment in the room. The children are exploring how they can change the flow of the marbles, by putting the blocks
We are drawing in our journal for the letter R.

We have a giant stuffed Boom, Boom, Tree for the children to play with.

We looked at letter D objects and thought up D words.

We used textured rollers and paper.
We did "List of dances" and "J is for jump" for music.
